Reg :- Tripod and Head suggestion needed for a newbie

    Hi,

I am currently using Hasselblad 500 cm with 80,50 ad 150 mm lenses. Planning to get a large format 4x5 filed camera with a 90, 135, 210.
Hence looking for a new tripod and a head for the same.
I would like to keep the total cost below $400 and hence request your thoughts on the same.
I have been looking towards a couple of choices for the tripod legs :-

    1. Induro Alloy 8M AT214 Tripod - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...14_Tripod.html
    2. Sirui N-1004X - 4 section tripod - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...um_tripod.html

However, for a head I would like to have a Ballhead :-

    1. Induro BHD2 Ballhead - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc..._Ballhead.html
    2. Sirui K-40X Ball Head - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...Ball_Head.html

However, i am open to ideas and suggestions from all you guys as you are all much more experienced...

I've no experience with their tripods but the Sirui ballheads are an excellent value and quality. I bought a the G-20X after examining the whole line in-store as it seemed to offer the best balance of size/strength and cost. It is rock solid; I use it with my 4x5 and 5x7 without reservation.

I used to have an Induro AT413, it was a pretty decent buy for the money; the AT214 should serve you well.
Beware of little bits that loosen and get quickly worn down (such as the centre post lock), and register for the warranty online for just such an incident.

I am using a Velbon Carmagne 640 tripod (Carbon fiber) with a Velbon PH 263 ball head (Magnesium alloy). I put a Zone VI 4x5 on this combination and it and it seems to work well.

There are only three types of mounting flanges; too big, too small and wrong thread!

Which 4x5? Your Hassy with lens is likely heavier than, say a Tachihara, so if your current tripod handles the Hassy system, it should be GTG if your camera is one of the lighter weight 4x5s. FWIW I use a $70 used Tiltall on my Graphic View II with no complaints (and the color coordinated aluminum on both camera & tripod does make quite a retro-fashion statement!)

My Tiltall works well enough with cameras in the Hasselbladd, GVII, and even larger classes. Perhaps heavier tripods would be better in severe shooting conditions, but I don't have to be photographing then. The included three-way head is also good.
