    Tips for paper trimmer shopping?

Sorry I didn't know exactly where to post this bit since it's related to our printer I thought this may be fine. My wife and I are considering a paper trimmer because it's getting a little annoying using a Fletcher mat cutter to trim paper. All we currently know it's to look at rotary trimmers but don't know much about the various models beyond that. It'd be used for my work but we also do commercial printing so it'd get regular use and thus needs to be durable.

Can anybody list any models we should look into in particular? Something with a reasonable sized "deck" (don't know what to call it) so we can stow it away on a shelf under our framing table when not in use without requiring two strong people to move it.

    Rototrim in the appropriate size.

Don't bother with cheaper models. Buy the best and cry once.

I've used a Dahle 36" for about ten years. No problems. I don't know the model off hand.

Without doubt, the Roto Trimmer, (Double slide Rail) is the best piece of photo equipment I have bought in the last 20 years

    Cheers

I have a Dahle and a Rotatrim. The Rotatrim has a little better build quality, but I much prefer using the Dahle. It's lighter and easier to store (aluminum base instead of melamine), cuts in both directions without having to disassemble the head, and the single cutter rail on the Dahle doesn't overhang so far away from the bed. Also the pressure bar on the Dahle is wider and has a safety fence built into it that makes cutting film in the dark much easier. Of course, these are just personal preferences based on what I use trimmers for, but might be worth trying a few out if you can.

I bought the Dahle 15 years ago so the design may have changed a little, my Rotatrim is new though.

Forgot to add- the aluminum base on the Dahle makes tapping threaded holes (for removable jigs or production stops for repeat cutting, etc) easier as well.

We'll be going with RotoTrim because my wife can get them at net through one of her distributors. Does anybody know if the 48" Rototrim Master Cut has dual bars? I can't tell from their website. It's almost 1/2 the price of the Professional series and there's a 48" model which would be less unwieldy than a 54" Professional.
