Why not get a 90mm f/8 from any of the major makers? I think all will cover 5x7 (I know and have used the Nikkor and Schneider) and that is still a very wide lens on 5x7 - and of course 1/3 or less the price of a 72XL too.
If you're shooting Positives, prepare to pony up for the CF as well. Mind you, once you have the pair, nothing compares!Originally Posted by Sugar

I was just thinking that too......doesn't Nikon make a decent 90/8? I dont care about speed it would spend most of its life at f32 and f64
Im on a 135 now and even that is pretty wide on 5x7

Speed is more about ease of focus. This is particularly true for WA lenses.
You will also encounter fall-off with these lenses, so, depending on your intended film type (and aesthetic), you might still need to consider a CF.

I did plan on shooting positives at some point, especially when I get a 4x5 back for it so a CF will be necessary, if something is worth shooting that big and going through the hassle of developing then it's worth doing right the first time.
