The Sekonic 778, step by step?

Anyone know of a step-by-step tutorial for using the Sekonic 778? I have the manual but its a sort of translation that is not quite clicking. I do what I *think* it is trying to say and the meter doesn't do anything! Or it does stuff but I'm not sure why.

I use it in regular mode, or in flash mode
1' or 3', whichever I need, usually 1' for field usage

It's feature-packed for sure, but I don't use 95% of those features. I use my 'noggin most of the time
Oh, the hotshoe comes in handy when using flash, I can just slip in my pocketwizard for reading background brightnesses. Handy when shooting on white coves to make sure it's evenly illuminated from top2bottom/side2side

I liked using it in the EV mode for zone system B&W work with BTZS. You can set the zone markers to whatever reference range you want, but I never found it that helpful for my work. I suppose that might be useful for color work as well. The instructions are good for explaining controls, but not very helpful for actual workflow with the meter. The best way is to experiment and find what works best for you.
