How long exposure do you think were used by this photographer Matthew Pillsbury?

He had has a write up in the New York Times and Slate for taking longish-exposure photos in the city with this "ghost" look to the people in them. How long of exposure do you think the following utilized--I think it depends on the subject--like a parade vs people sitting down vs a museum I think you would need to adjust so what would be your guess for some of the following:

Each subject would be different times.

Years ago I saw a grouping of photographs that were in panoramic format, of India street scenes with very , very long exposures. a nice technique if well thought out. I like the outdoor park scene.

Looks like mostly a couple of seconds - you can make out the motion of individuals rather than just a group blur. The last one is clearly no more than about 1s because there are clear, solid legs of walkers. Some of the others (with translucent but well-defined people, like the 3rd & 5th) look like they're possible multiple-exposures, or were made over longer periods with the subjects being stationary but still for a fraction of the exposure. The 5th in particular looks like he tripped the shutter then walked over to sit down.

Is that all it takes to get written up in the New York Times - time exposures?

It also depends heavily on the film. The image below was exposed for ~ 27 seconds on Fuji 100 Acros. If I had shot it on Ilford Delta 100, the exposure would have nee ~ 2.5 minutes.

Those are inhuman photographs. How did he visualize them?

It looks to me like they were time exposures, and those times could've been various times, but the key is that they were hit with a flash in order to freeze the motion for a split second. This is especially noticeable on the 2nd one where the lady on the right side of the opening is clearly flashed. And the last one you can see the police are sharp, yet clearly they are walking.

They're all different, and at least one (last one) is a double exposure.

I don't believe it's ever been done better than Sebastiao Salgado's Church Gate Station.

Intriguing time exposures, sure! FWIW, the images might be multiple, and varying exposures for each frame. They are not typical.
