    Technika variable extension lens board

Just picked up a technika mount variable extension lens board. This gives 3 inches extension to 5 inches extension.(variable) It was made in Germany per the stamping on the rear of the board. Anyone have any info on it? Pricing, make or whatnot? Sure works well for adding extra length for a 500 Nikkor tele on the shorter bellows 4x5's and gives a bit more flexibility to macro work as the adjustable length makes it easier to finetune focus rather than moving a tripod back & forth. The guy I got it from has another if anyone is interested.

You have a Linhof Wide Angle Focusing Device for 55 to 65mm lenses. Not a "variable extension lens board"

It uses technika 23 lensboards and would only accept a 0 or 1 shutter.

    Technika variable extension lens board

Bob, I am using a 500 tele-Nikkor on it. The Copal 1 & lens fits perfectly & it allows more extension so the lens works on the shorter bellows 4x5's. Also works very well for fine tuning with the Nikkor macro lenses on 4x5, 5x7 & 8x10... all set up to take technika mountboards. Each lens mounts directly on the rounded front piece which is threaded for the Copal 1 shutters I have them in.

Maybe it is for the wide angle lenses but it works well for these applications also.

    Thanks for your quick response.

it sounds like a variable macro extension.

We used to have some like this in the late 70's supplied as part of a kit with technica 4x5's for close up evidence photography. I always assumed they were made by Linhof as they came all in a case with all the other Linhof accesories and they had the same finish and build as the other Linhof stuff. Maybe they were a special order for the British Army as part of the whole kit? Maybe they were third party. The gear was probably contracted in the late sixties early seventies I would guess. Everything went to Hasselbad and Nikon sometime after that....

It was a linhof board/mount with a variable extension tube/cone on it.

What do/did these things cost new? It sure is handy for an extension board for the tele lenses.

    Dan,

I am interested. I use a Nikkor-M 300mm with my Shenhao, and while I can squeeze out close to 360mm by moving both the front and rear standards off the rails, I would welcome a more stable solution. It would also be a boon for macro shots. Please let me know the going price. Thanks.

Melchi, try the Wista extension lensboard. It comes with two additional extension rings in addition to the one built into the lensboard, and there are three adapters (Copal 0, 1, 3 and the smaller ones can be drilled out like lensboards if you need), so you can use it for different lenses. I think I paid around $225 for it a couple of years ago.
