How to safely remove a cog from a Jobo lid (Video)

Following the many questions we get about this topic, we decided to upload a video that shows how to remove the cog from your Jobo lid.
The cog (#1505) was designed to be a permanent addition to the lid, but as seen in this video, can easily be removed, and replaced (if damaged), or for converting the lid for use as in inversion lid (red membrane cap #03046 will be needed).

    Check it out on youtube:

That was great CatLabs! Thanks for the posting the link.

How about removing the magnet from a drum? When I first started processing I foolishly attached a magnet to the bottom of a 1500 series drum. It presents no problem with inversion but I also shoot 120 color and the extra weight isn't needed by the processor.

Wouldn't it have been safer to use a wooden dowel than a screw driver ?

Wouldn't dream of knocking any piece off of anything Jobo, it may easily reduce its resale value. What I decided to do, not having cheap CPAs or CPPs around, was to simply permanently add a 750ml cup to a spare Expert lid obtained for about $20. And extend the lid's rim with a piece of cardboard core, epoxy and polyurethane. Paired with a 3004, I got an inversion 8x10" drum for all processes, including colour, with no fear of streaks. Here's the thing itself:

    And on a 3004 drum:

Rather obviously, the lid leaks a bit, but a few layers of non-residual tape solve that problem. Crazy, heh?

Sure - the only problem is finding a wooden dowel with a fine enough and hard enough tip, the ones we have in our shop don't seem to want to do it, but your mileage may vary.
We have done this and demo'd it to customers with a screw driver hundreds of times (or more...) and never an issue.

Removing and installing the magnet will be up next week!

How about a video on the best safest way to remove a Expert lid , the foot pump is not a good method,
I use a bit of hot water and a chunk of wood and hammer off the lid takes seconds but is clumsy as hell.

I fill the Expert drums with water after processing and all it takes is a small bit of pressure with the foot pump to pop the lids. The sheets are also easier to slide out of the drum.

    Bob,

I always use the foot pump and don't have a problem. The "trick" is to make several short pumps in succession to gradually build-up the pressure inside until a gentle pop lifts the lid. If you crank down on the pump and rapidly increase the pressure inside, the lid will go airborne and damage to the tank may result as some have reported. I cfrank up the pressure inside gradually while keeping a hand on the lid.

    Thanks Barry and Thomas

I have not found the pump useful , we would fill the tank with water and then with cotton around the hose end place the hose in hole and the lid would release,
I have found the hot water and wood blocks easier for me.. I would give your suggestions a go but I threw the pump out years ago.
