Re: (Rolling) Case for Toyo 810M

Nothing of interest at the hardware stores; too large and bulky vs too small and flimsy. Haven't yet been to Office Depot or the like.

I found another case of interest, the Nanuk 945 for about $150, which is right on my budget, as are the cases mentioned above.

I've made dividers before, and I prefer them to pick & pluck foam, so I may buy an empty, used case for under $100 and re-furb it myself.

Check out Wilson Case. http://www.wilsoncase.com/ They might a have something in the clearance or standard cases that suits you and your price point. Of course they will gladly do a custom.

Re: (Rolling) Case for Toyo 810M

I ended up buying a Nanuk 945 that was on special at Henry's Camera.
It holds the 810M, three extra lenses (one mounted on the camera), and bits and bobs.
It came with pick and pluck foam, which I despise, but until I make my own dividers, it'll do.
The case can go on my cart when I need to move around, and it's nice having all the 8x10 stuff in one place; nothing forgotten, and I'm much more enthusiastic about taking it with me.

Thanks for all the advice, everybody.

Re: (Rolling) Case for Toyo 810M

Update for anyone in a similar situation:

The Lowepro X300 AW (the AW is larger than the non-AW version) holds the Toyo 810M, three mounted lenses, accessories, and maybe four 8x10 holders.
And there are still empty pockets and spaces everywhere.

It is not carry-on size, but smaller than an average suitcase and very well-built.
So far, it's the only rolling case I've found with this much room and depth in such a compact size.

    Highly recommended!

    Hi Peter,

    My pleasure.

I forgot to add that the pull-out handle is pretty good, not the sturdiest, but I guess it's a trade-off in weight savings.
    The wheels are excellent.
The top lid is neoprene, and the case is much lighter than my carry-on Pelican 1510.
Maybe I'll post a photo later.

I plan to use the hell out of this case, both domestically and abroad.

I know a guy who keeps all his LF gear in roll around tool boxes . . .sort of. At home he has two Snap-On mechanics tool boxes that stand 5 feet tall and roll on heavy duty casters. He has lined the drawers with thin foam matting. When shooting at home, he moves the furnature around some and sets up with the tool boxes rolled right out to where he is working.

PhotoBackPacker has a line of semi-rigid protective boxes for LF gear. This system includes cases large enough for 8x10 cameras and about any lens/board combination. The PB system will allow LF gear to be housed or transported in any bag or case you want to re-purpose; tool box, luggage or what-have-you.

There are only three types of mounting flanges; too big, too small and wrong thread!

Re: (Rolling) Case for Toyo 810M

    Thanks, Drew.
My reason for buying the Lowepro was to have one case that could handle working at home, in the city, and travel easily as well.
I had a look at PB's stuff last year, and while it's very high-quality, I didn't like having all kinds of extra bits and bobs everywhere, I have enough in my camera bag.
