Twenty years ago we took a trip to the Grand Canyon for our anniversary (20th). I was new to LF and had no serious gear. What I brought was a Pre-anniversary Speed Graphic beater and the 135mm lens it came with, 6 film holders, dark cloth, loupe etc.
All the stuff got packed into a cheap book-bag type backpack. I had customized the bag by buying a surplus closed cell foam sleeping pad. I cut the pad into pieces the shape of the bag's interior and layered them together with a hot glue gun. A steak knife was used to cut out spaces for the camera, film holders and the rest.
The cheap tripod I had was hooked through the handle at the top and the flimsy waste belt tied it down at the bottom. I made this rig work for two weeks of car-camping and day hiking.
Today, I have several bags hat I can choose from depending on what shooting is intended. A good bit of my gear lives in PhotoBackpacker semi-rigid boxes. I just pick out the outfit I want to bring along and put those boxes into the smallest bag they will fit into. There is hook-n-loop everywhere and everything can be made to stick together . . .and/or stick to the bag’s interior. TIf you want, the folks at PB will custom cut a hook-n-loop board to fit into any pack you have. The boxes will stick to the board in any configuration you choose.

There are only three types of mounting flanges; too big, too small and wrong thread!
Confirmed
I also made a video of trying to figure out hwo to arrange everything into it.
