Thanks for the tip Tim. My issue has generally been with certain films outdoors being grossly blue-shifted, from the base scan. Certain film looks tungsten-balanced instead of daylight. Anyway, I will try a 9% clip setting, not sure what it's at now.

Hard Black and White edges is where I see it and with more than a few pixels spills into the Black area.

I’ll definitely get the Scanmate up and running. Now when I know how good it is, it would be a shame not to use it. But as mentioned here, the guy doing the scanning is as important as the scanner. So I guess I have a lot to learn, but that’s just part of the fun. I wouldn’t be working with large format cameras if I wanted it easy.
I still haven't heard from Micheal... When you buy one of these refurbished units do they come with the calibration slide? From what I've read they're fairly necessary.
WHen you get a unit from Michael, you get everything you need - calibration sheets, software, a few mask sheets
