    Closing a thread?

    hello,
Is it possible to close a thread or edit the title?
In the Buy/Sell section I often end up opening things that are gone already.
    Thanks.

Not unless someone specifically requests it. We don't have the time to monitor and follow up on these.
    Thanks,

    Re: Closing a thread?

While I am sympathetic to the frustration of being too late, there is no obligation on the part of those who sell things on the for-sale forum to notify the mods when an item is sold or no longer available. Trying to keep up with that would take hours per week. When a thread originator requests something, we usually do it, but trying to figure that out ourselves is not in the cards.

It's just like the classifieds in the newspaper. If it's an edition from two weeks ago, there's a good chance an item is sold already, but no way to know.

We certainly encourage sellers to add to the thread to notify future readers that the item is no longer available.

    OK thanks.
I wasn't suggesting the mods do it. On another blog I follow, the ability to close a thread is included under "Administrative" and is available to the OP in the Buy/Sell forum only. (badgerandblade.com).

Also, their culture is for the OP to preface each thread with FS or WTB etc. I know the directions in the FS thread suggest this, but no one seems to do it! Also, often each original post is edited as things are sold, for example,

Oh and I forgot to say, this is a great forum, and thanks for all you do as moderators.
    I've learned a ton here.

I just reviewed the first 50 FS threads and only 6 of them lacked a FS/WTB designation or equivalent wording.

You can edit the thread title during the open edit period by going to Advanced.

If you believe you can, or you believe you can't... you're right.

You are right, I did not look closely enough; most posts ARE prefaced appropriately.
