11x11 inch plate of Jasper Brown. Bigger is harder in my cramped mobile darkroom. I also am not a fan of using clear glass so have ordered some aluminium. Black glass has doubled in price recently (has that happened anywhere else or just here in Australia?)

Hopefully my technique will improve. A little sloppy but it's been a couple of months since I've made any plates.

    My Shooters
    by Ashley Hoff, on Flickr

This is from my first session pouring, exposing and developing Tin Types, as part of a workshop run by Cynthia Gemus in Adelaide. This is the third plate that I did.
To say I was extremely happy with the results was an understatement. I know, being part of a workshop helps to give you a leg up, but I was not expecting to get a good plate and exposure so early in.

    I'm hooked!

That's the best way to learn, like the apprenticeships of old. You'll be shooting plates that good from now on, other than the usual Collodion gremlins.

Thanks Garrett. I am hooked. I am now thinking of how I can do it.....and do it portable.

There are a few things I am going to do different to what we did in the workshop. I have to admit I am not too keen on playing with Ether, so I am going to try one of the all alcohol based Collodion recipes.

Without being a image sharing whore, another one from the day:

    Tin Type Me
    by Ashley Hoff, on Flickr

This is a Tin Type selfie of sorts, but I have to admit, I did everything except take the shot. This was done by the assistant on the day.

One thing I learnt from the day is how soft the emulsion is, even when dry. I gave this one a soft brush before I varnished it. You can see the brush strokes. I'll share one or so more over the next few days.

    Cheers

Quick digital snaps, old workhorse collodion on aluminum.
I spent a weekend at a Furry Convention (http://furthemore.org) I shot close to thirty plates in two days outside of the hotel with a dark box.
The last one (Kos) was a dark blue and purple outfit. It was so cold that she couldn't keep from shivering (6sec at F4.5) but I liked how the blur worked with the subject.
All the plates went to the sitters.
Loads of fun and great practice.

Very cool. Unique subject matter. Been trying to talk my friend into shooting plates at some conventions, haven't yet but hopefully later this year or next.
