I'm happy that another ambrotypist is willing to make such an investment, I wish him well.
I just hope he keeps at it long enough to do some interesting work. Mastering the technique is not an end in itself, and the novelty will wear off before too long. Having his work accepted by major institutions is a good sign- may his hard work pay off with great pictures!
My first wet plate!
My aluminum came in, so I shot my first plate. Pouring the collodion is going to take some time to learn. I don't have a proper silver tank yet, so I just sensitized the plate in a 5x7 tray.
This was just a test shot, so I just took a photo of a tree outside my shop.
Shot using Lea's Landscape collodion.

Congrats, Andrew! That is a VERY respectable first plate. And there’s nothing wrong with using a tray for the silver nitrate. Most people find the pouring of collodion quite challenging, so give yourself time to get used to it. I look forward to seeing more of your plate work!
Thanks Paul! Its going to take some study and a lot of trial and error, but that's the fun part.
