I think it depends on how committed you are to the darkroom print/process. If you love it, and love the look of darkroom prints, then by all means go forward. Having done platinum prints for many years, and now wide format inkjet prints that even exceed those, I am not much of a fan of the darkroom. I question whether you will be able to get paper soon and I don't know if I will even be able to get film in 8x10 ini a couple of years. I also have a Century Universal, and a drum scanner. The quality is amazing. I'd say get yourself in front of some great b&w prints made by a real master on the inkjet and then decide... It's really a personal choice.

Oh, come on, with at least six manufacturers of 8x10 b/w film materials, and 2 of color, it is sheer folly to think that they would all go out-of-business in a couple of years.

That sounds like a very automated enlarger..... I have a 5x7 camera, and have thought of going to 8x10 someday, but I like the 120 format because of the portable nature. I have been trying to find out more about the 2501, mabey send me the contact info so I could get some idea of the enlarging system.... I do alot of dodging/burning and print black and white only, mabey do color again in the future......

    Thanks for all the info,
    Rolfe

I have an 8X10 Elwood enlarger which I'm thinking about selling. Too bad you're on the other side of the world.

I couldn't imagine parting with my Elwood. We put an overcoat and fedora on it and the kids call it "Uncle Elwood"
I wonder if I can get a social security card for the ol' geezer?

In a pinch it can also double as a Christmas tree.

Cool Re: 8x10 Enlarger...HELP please talk me out of it!!

They need not be overwhelming. I have a Beseler I am selling to a guy (pretty sure) and it does not take up much more room than a 4x5 Besler. If you are going to do huge enlargements, Durst is the best I have seen. If you want really huge, get a Saltzman - Clyde Butcher uses them, must take 15 feet of head room and a ton of floor space.

My durst is the one I am keeping because it is so solid, and it will do really huge prints, but the Beseler is no big deal.

I am interested in this enlarger if no one has snapped it up yet.
