Re: Shen Hao 4x5 with Sinar Lens Boards

I'm not sure what you mean. It's an Ebony copy I think. From what everybody said when it came out it's supposed to be a fairly close copy.

How big is the shutter? The opening behind the lensboard...

Re: Shen Hao 4x5 with Sinar Lens Boards

My HZX57 takes Sinar flat boards but not recessed. The FCL810 takes both flat and recessed.

The 5x7 can be had with a 4x5 back. Little bigger and heavier then a true 4x5 but not much.
  3. Re: RA-4/Wet Color...Is it worth trying for a newb?

I use multiple drums. Washing in the drum isn't an issue. It's making sure the damn thing is 100% dry.

    For drying paper towels.

In some ways I've found colour easier then B&W

It's only four pounds? I think I have a lens that heavy -)

I thought Shen had mostly stopped making it's larger Ebony style cameras?

    Re: Shen Hao 8X10

I don't. I'm curious what the point of the wide angle version of the camera is. The current camera goes just as wide if not wider. So what's gained from the wide angled model?

    Re: Shen Hao 8X10

The FCL with the bag bellows goes wider IIRC. With the Sinar recessed board I think it less then 60mm ground glass to back of lensboard.

How wide does it go? The FCL already goes wider then any 8x10 lens. I guess the new one sets up quicker.

    Re: Fujinon W or CM-W

The in demand W are all single coated aren't they? While it doesn't matter for 4x5 the W are good cheap wide angles for the larger formats.

    Re: 300mm plasmat

The Fuji-W is smaller then the other similar speed lenses. It's still big enough to lose a small child underneath .

For field work it's not like an 8x10 field camera is that tiny either.

Re: Final check before making the leap

    You don't mention budget.

I'd lean towards the Shen 5x7 camera and the matching 6x17 back.

    Why?

Better camera. Cheaper back. So the total cost isn't much higher. If you later want to shoot...

  15. Re: Want two more lenses can only buy ONE right now....

The one you find a good deal on first?

Many of the 360mm are big and heavy. That might be an issue.

The 450mm Fuji F/12.5 is tiny OTOH.

    Re: LF lenses are expensive.

Lenses that don't appeal to the current manias are cheaper and can be cheap.

So big heavy lenses are cheaper then small light weight lenses.
Longer tend to be cheaper then wide angle.

    Re: Nikon Nikkor SW 90mm f/8 vs. 90mm f/4.5?

IIRC the 4.5 image circle is listed at F/16. The F/8 at F/22. That implies to me NIkon thinks the F/8 should be stopped down more then the F/4.5.

Re: Agfa Ansco View Camera Question/help

Yes but the tilt didn't come in until early 1930s IIRC. So if the camera has front tilt and only carries the Ansco name it has to be after the US government took it over.

82mm not 85. Unless your Nikon is different then mine. I can't imagine an 85 being used.

    Keeping qualities.

    Hardening if it's a hardening fixer . TF-3 isn't
  30. Re: Alkaline Fixer: is Ammonium Thiosulfate enough ?

You can use plain hypo like this so I'm sure ammonium thiosulfate would be fine.
