Re: HP Combi-Plan 4x5 tank and agitation

Dip & dunk is the way to go. Just make sure your darkroom is really light-tight, or use a changing tent.
  2. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

I use PCB Einsteins with Carestream half-speed blue in the studio. I rate the film ISO 25 under those conditions. But bear in mind I'm using a Packard shutter — so I'm not sure how accurate the...

I'm going to save you some time in digging through this thread. Start by rating it at ISO 25 in midday light. If you are shooting in natural light, the film loses speed in early morning and late...

Copal #1 shutter much too fast at slow speeds

Any tips on repairing a Copal #1 shutter that fires too quickly at the slow speeds? It is only marginally slower at 1s than it is at 1/400th second.

I know how to take one apart for cleaning &...

    Mind … blown!
  6. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

FWIW, I store mine in the freezer, factory-sealed, until I'm ready to use it. Once I open it I store it at room temperature.

Haven't had any problems so far.
  7. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Based on previous posts referencing removal of one side of emulsion, yes.
  8. Re: Lightening the non-load: Dispose of Metz Mecablitz SCA300 or keep?

I can endorse this supplier. Best cables money can buy. Also best place to find really obscure adapters.

    Re: Short Petzval

FWIW, the longer of my 2 Petzvals has an adjustable iris. It is definitely a Petzval — 2 doublets, cement in front, air in back.
  10. Re: macOS 11 upgrade discards printer/scanner drivers: replacements may be unavailabl

Try VueScan. It's way better than the OEM software anyway.

Get 2 of these bulbs and the socket adapter. Put them in a cheap clamp-on work light with reflector and point it at a white wall or ceiling.

Is that a Chihuly sculpture among the plants?
  14. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

I bet those subdermal freckles are nearly invisible to the naked eye. That's one of the things I love about this film.

  17. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

    +1 on this.
  18. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Was this from the manufacturer? A supplier? Or somewhere else?
  19. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Mohmad, there are so many variables that our past experience may not apply to your exact situation with this film. Just as with regular film, it's best for you to do your own exposure tests and...
  20. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Your link is malformed; it should start with "http://" but it starts with "ttp://". In any case, I was able to look at the datasheet & it doesn't provide a lot of useful information. The film is...
  21. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

I did not know about the latter type. You would probably get decent results with it after some trial-and-error.
  22. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

The developers used by hospitals are intended for use in their rapid development machines. I don't think you'd get the same result by, say, tray developing or developing in a daylight tank meant for...

Re: Collodion - Wet Plate Images

There used to be an article by Alex Timmerman on the internets somewhere in which he demonstrated that the exaggerated swirl you sometimes see in images made with a Petzval is the result of an...

Only Ektascan & other single-emulsion x-ray films have anti-halation backing. And they are all on blue polyester substrates.

  27. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

The emulsion is much softer when it is wet, hence easier to scratch. But you can scratch it when it's dry too.

Apart from the pollution, I think you are farther north. Beijing = lat. 39.9042° N; OKC metro = 35.4676° N. So I'd probably need a slightly shorter exposure.
