  1. Re: Ebay and protecting people infringing copyright - my story

Heck, I don't know anything personally. Everything I know I read here. If I had to guess, I'd say Don knew him well or at least took the time to get to know him.

Twice in recent years I have seriously underexposed film, for an entire series each, simply because I didn't perform speed tests. Once when I shot expired 400 speed film at 400 and once when I shot...

    Re: Determining film speed.

I use a figure of approximately two ounces of stock D-76 per sheet of 4x5 so that would be about eight ounces of stock D-76 per sheet of 8x10. If you choose 1:1 development times, then that would...

    Re: Stopping down and "Diffraction"

This has been a great discussion and the only thing I didn't see was Ralph Lambrecht's chart from Way Beyond Monochrome.

Ralph shared the chart on a special interest group site some of our members...

Depending how you process your sheets of 4x5 vs 8x10 (you could always cut your 8x10 film into quarter sheets then you will be using the same batch!). The procedures you follow may change your needed...

Here's the lab notes forms that I designed for myself a couple years ago. I've shared the prints sheet before but since I just uploaded the negs sheet today this might be new to everyone.

    Re: Metering Light For Tintypes

Why not use an actinometer? You know the Watkins Bee-type with a sheet of printing out paper that you turn a bit to expose a fresh section through a small hole in the device. Next to the hole is a...
  11. Re: Ebay and protecting people infringing copyright - my story

No, Don Dudenbostel took iconic photographs of Popcorn Sutton, who has passed, giving Don an effective monopoly on the images of Popcorn... Since the alternative is pretty crummy mug shots, Don's got...
  12. Re: Looking for Septums for Grafmatic holder

Agree with Jim Andrada. You should check with KEH on their return/adjustment policy. I have occasionally found septums for sale, so I have bought them. When I travel, I always carry extra because,...

Re: Have you ever made bellows?

I made a bellows for my DII enlarger. Was totally worth it, still fresh today as the day I made it. I used kid leather from Tandy. Don't know if it would hold light as well as a camera requires but...

    Re: Film speed testing

  21. Re: Underestimated Dry-Down Effect - worked to my advantage

Ha, well no Walmart near here. Anyway made my Grade 3 prints tonight, one looked good in the fixer so I cut back 1/3 stop and made another just the same. It may dry down to be just right.

Re: Update on my (troubled) film speed test

    Hi Mario,

Exactly what it means. You may proceed under the assumption that your speed is 25 or 32, for 7 minutes in D-76 stock for Arista EDU 100.

You can see a trend supporting that...

Re: What's been gained in the analog age?

Grain is no longer a detriment, which means it is not necessary to aim exposures to be "the least" exposure sufficient to yield an excellent print. You can give more and be assured a quality print.
