This sounds good, Neil. I may have found a workable solution, but it will take a few days for me to acquire the necessary bits and to test it out - I'll report back if and when I succeed :)

I'm content starting with (and quite possibly stopping at) 4x5, as even this is beyond what I imagined I would do. Perhaps in a few years, I may feel the 8x10 itch! :)
Thank you, John! :)
Thank you very much, Andrew! :)
Hi Greg,
Sadly the head I've seen advertised does not have the screws. If I find one with them, I'll be extra careful, as you suggest.
The tips about the Kessler accessories are great - I'll...
Thank you for this suggestion, Neil - I'll look into it.
Thank you for the welcome, Dave. I have had disc issues for a few years, and it is good to know that the modularity of 4x5 kits allows piecemeal transport. Hope your surgery was successful!
Thank you, Peter - you're right, many of my favourite subjects are still! I'm grateful that there are so many experienced people who are willing to share their knowledge. And since I have no answers...
Thank you very much :)
Alan - thank you very much. This is good to know :)
Thanks, Greg! I noticed this on the head that is currently advertised on ebay - there are 2 pins that are screwed into the head, and are flush with the surface of the head. I'll need to examine the...
Thank you, Alan - yes, I'm leaning more and more toward the Sinar.
Absolutely! Since the Norma is a gift, I'll give it a shot to see how I fare with it, and then make a decision on the next step. I might end up loving it :)
Thank you very much, Alan!
I hope, for the sake of my prolapsed intervertebral discs, that I don't go any larger than 4x5!! Even the Norma may prove a challenge in terms of weight, but I won't...
Hello Large Format Photographers,
I'm about to embark on my first LF adventure, and members here were very helpful with my first question about a tripod head, and so I thought I'd do the right...
Jeff, Dan and Jerry - thank you very much for the detailed information. Being a complete neophyte in the LF world, I appreciate your sharing your experience and knowledge with me.
Thank you, Daniel. This is great. Could you please let me know how the Norma head attaches to your tripod? Do you need a 3/8 screw or clamp to fix the head to the tripod? I have a Gitzo Series 4...
Thanks, Keith - I saw this, and it does look good. Do you have any experience with it? Perhaps I might be better off with a used Sinar head.
Hi folks,
My first post here!
I am about to acquire a Sinar Norma, but don't yet have a way to mount it on my Gitzo Series 4 tripod. From the comments, it sounds like the Sinar head is the way to...
