Thanks for the replies everyone. Now to go Ebaying for a panel..and some film. doesn't seem to be much choice when it comes to film, but FP4 or HP5 will do fine, it's all I seem to get when I search...
Hi,
I have just bought a 5x7 sinar Norma. It hasn't arrived yet, but I wondered if the front lens panels are the same dimensions for both the 4x5 and 5x7 versions?
I need to get onto Evil Bay...
That's great information! Many thanks everyone. Need to sort out a board and I'll give it a try!
Hi,
It is marked 7 inch f4.5. The retaining ring is engraved with the TH logo. The serial number is 55979.
Forgive my ignorance, I've never heard of the Vade Mecum. I'll look it up.
Regards...
Hi,
one of those impulse things of evil bay - I bought a lens, brass barrel marked ;cooke anastigmat lens series II f4.5'. The barrel is engraved 'Taylor, Taylor & Hobson , Leicester, London and...
If you ever get to use a 4x5 underwater, I want to see a video of it on You tube!! Good luck, I hope you do it.
Excellent stuff ! Great image Ken, and thanks for posting - amazing detail ! Thank you everyone!
Wow! thanks for the replies :-) It's for use on 4x5. I've reserved it and will pick up early next week. No-one seems to have a bad word to say about it. I accept it may not give the brightest image...
Hi folks,
My local photo shop has one of these lenses for sale, and it is a focal length I would like. I've read all about how glorious people rate this, but I've searched and searched, and cannot...
My opinions based on shopping experiences:
Mr Cad - overpriced and generally over described in terms of condition - I would not go there. All my photographic colleagues at work have had problems...
I put mine in kodak 4x5 film hangers, the things you use for dip and dunk. Always dry fine, and they cost just a few pounds for 6 from Ebay. No chance of the film falling out, which I found to be a...
Did the same myself the other week. Sold ALL my canon DSLR gear. Film really does still rule! Got a Hasselblad for when my 4x5 is not suitable. With the proceeds bought a Nikon Coolscan 9000ED...
I have just sold all my Canon DSLR gear. Basically it gave me lovely images, but as an amateur I do photography for FUN. The digital gear did not give me any pleasure. I have a 4x5 and medium...
Send them to Peak Imaging. They do a great job on all 4x5, and negs come back spotless. Not cheap though. I used them for some once in a lifetime stuff earlier this year rather than risk cocking them...
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am thinking leaving it on top of the fridge was a bad idea. I have a brand new readyload holder so I am going to shoot two images side by side in daylight using the old...
Hello everyone,
I shot 4 images on 4x5 about two weeks apart, and then loaded them up into a combi-plan tank. I then left the tank on top of my refridgerator/freezer for 3 weeks before processing....
Oh, and I've never had any problems with velcro dividers moving, so I found the earlier comment a bit suprising.
I've had an Airport addicted Thinktank bag for the last year or so. I can only say great things about it. I've taken it as carry-on luggage to USA and Iceland, packed with complete DSLR and 4x5...
Yes, felt stupid all weekend :-( Yesterday developed Tmax in Kodak fixer (the bottles are exactly the same and I did not check). Today drove miles to take a specific few photos, and had left the lupe...
Hi folks,
I need a new light meter and would have probably gone for a Gossen, but a friend of my son who works on film sets mentioned these:

What...
I cannot get decent result from velvia (maybe it's my technique). I get far better output using Kodak Portra. It is far easier to scan and is less contrasty.
Thanks for the replies. And Ken, I mailed you with a few questions but think they have all been answered here. The ATN one's you use: do they have an infra-red illuminator?
Cheers!
Don't laugh, I am so useless at loading dark slides I saw these and would try anything:

Question is, would the built in...
It is in an article by Philip Jones Griffiths (now deceased) and (quote) '..but processed film has a limited life (especially when processed in one hour photo booths). In 20 years there will be no...
I'm in the UK and go out most weekends to shoot LF. I've never seen another LF user! But there must be a few out there. There are only 225 registered users of the UK large format photography web...
Hi folks,
In an article in this months Black and white photography magazine, there was some throw away comment about the archival quality of 1 hour or express labs negatives. I've never heard of...
Problem as I see it now is that Fuji Quickloads are twice the price of Kodak's readyloads. So there will not be a big automatic switch to Fuji. Photographers will probably switch to sheet film and...
Another update..
This weekend I am having a few friends round to have a ritual burning of my printer. I may even film it for You tube.
I've been plagued with missing or faulty photo black...
I have an Ebony 45SU, and have used it extensively for 3 years, in all weathers and conditions. I am a perfectionist and I can say hand on heart I simply cannot fault the camera. Beautiful to look...
I found this quite interesting so thought I'd post the link:

This is my current favourite. I like it because it took so much effort to take! It was minus 12, 40mph winds. The tripod blew over several times when setting up. I had to weigh it down with rocks....
Thanks for the replies. Yes, you learn something every day! Won't be buying 500ml bottles again!
Steve
Thanks for the response. Confused.com here! The 500ml bottle has 1:9 dilution and the 1L size says 1:31.
As it therefore must be the stronger stuff, I use the US Syrup dilutions on this web page:...
Just about to develop some film, and took delivery today of 2 1Ltr bottles of HC-110 (I am in the UK and the supplier is UK based, Retrophotographic). I just noticed the catalogue number of the...
Hi all,
For those in the Uk, tonight (23rd April), at 10:40pm, there is a programme called 'Made in England', and tonight showcases the work of Harry Cory Wright, landscape photographer, using a...
My company has a social club and a photography section with a few members. I know and have talked with quite a few colleagues who have this printer. The summary is that it is junk. We all have had...
Totally agree about the costs. If it all went on prints (I have an HP B9180), it wouldn't be so bad. Half of what I use goes on cleaning and calibration. It's crap. I've shut it down and given up. I...
I've had an Imac for 2 years, never had a virus checker or had any problems. One of the reasons I went over to Mac. My son has had an apple powerbook for much longer and he's not had any problems...
Does anyone have any ideas on a fixed hood for a Caltar 65mm lens which I'm using on a Fotoman 612?
I'm not viewing the image on a ground glass, which is possible but only as a one-off each time...
