  1. Re: Zone VI Cold Light Head Housing entry?? how to??

hmmm ok thanks for that - i guess i have to peel up the rubber surround to find the screws?? there are none visible on mine- and the rubber is putting up a REALLY good fight ... gahhh
  2. Zone VI Cold Light Head Housing entry?? how to??

I recently purchased a 5x7 zone VI cold light head for my DeVere 504 (don't ask but it works) - it arrived with a shattered bulb since the nice gentleman from ebay thought it would be a good idea to...
  3. Re: an interesting experience at Schipol Airport Amsterdam - re: X-RAYs

some excellent points there. i blame the forums and what i read there rather than any sort of personal cultural attitudes ... i'd simply assumed these 'rules' were 'international' in nature and never...
  4. Re: an interesting experience at Schipol Airport Amsterdam - re: X-RAYs

    yes, good point John ...

though i was convinced a roll of 120 i processed years back when i was more laissez-faire about x rays got fogged and super grainy ... i think it was due to it getting...
  5. an interesting experience at Schipol Airport Amsterdam - re: X-RAYs

haven't posted in a dog's age but I thought this might be useful to someone:

So I was just coming back to the states from a europe trip. I asked for a 'hand inspection' at the security checkpoint...

Re: Affordable drum scanning in Spain

thanks! I might be over there in a few months - I always try to get my film processed locally - to avoid any airport x-ray mishaps (okay maybe i'm superstitious) but it's also nice to see what you've...

Re: Developing old Super-XX: Can I do better?

personally i wouldn't use an anti fog but rather just a cutting reducer after the fact.

Re: Affordable drum scanning in Spain

interesting. can you give us an idea of what one might be paying - say - for something like a 10K x 12K scan?

give us a screenshot of your RGB histograms and i'm sure you can get some better feedback...
  10. Re: View camera alignment for "full frontal architecture"

it's really very simple - i've probably done more of this than practically anyone... don't worry about anything else lining up. Just get yourself in the center (as you see it), set your bubble levels...
  11. Re: Opinion needed concerning min. amount of dev. for 4 x 5 sheets

Daniel - I think that's a really smart way of doing things - so hat's off to you. I think it's admirable to go out and explore the frontier of what's possible first and then come back to a more...
  12. Re: Opinion needed concerning min. amount of dev. for 4 x 5 sheets

Yes Mark but stand developing often involves super high dilutions. So that's why it was mentioned. I'm big on high dilution for acutance and frequent agitation myself.
  13. Re: Opinion needed concerning min. amount of dev. for 4 x 5 sheets

depends on the amount of active developer in the solution - you could dilute it WAYYYY lower (1:100 maybe even) and do a super long development on it (usually called 'stand' developing etc) ... best...

Re: Sinar models - what's the difference?

to add: there is pretty much ZERO practical difference between the P2 and the X. The detents make zero difference if you have eyes and can use them to zero movements - and the format change...
  15. Re: Chopped 4x5 Enlgarger progress

mod is above. see pictures. I posted the pics with the text.
  16. Re: Cold Light optics question - anyone want to take this on?

and the bottom frame shows the projected image at the negative stage by the zone VI cold light
  17. Chopped 4x5 Enlgarger progress

okay- well it seems to have been a somewhat successful project so far - NICE to know you can 'chop' an enlarger like you can a car... so now my 4x5 DeVere is fully 6x17 capable... pics to follow....

  19. Re: EPSON MOD: Anyone try using it without platen glass?

sorry for the delay Doug! I didn't have my notifications turned on. fabulous.... just the sort of thing I was hoping for. I won't bother with it then. I'm getting to be of the mind that (for me)...
  20. Re: Cold Light optics question - anyone want to take this on?

seems to me that a view camera is a good analog for this- insofar as the projected light by a lens has a similar fall off to what we're looking at here - and a decent fresnel lens seems to correct it...
  21. Re: Cold Light optics question - anyone want to take this on?

    bump?
  22. Re: Cold Light optics question - anyone want to take this on?

I don't see why it needs to be so complicated (?) why not just use a fresnel lens to spread and even out the light -if done properly (?)

This was the basic plan - a quick sketch I just did for the...
  23. Re: Cold Light optics question - anyone want to take this on?

Hi - well I will have to make drawings - as the two possibilities for light spacing are inherently unphotographable - at least without cutting a cross section through the head. But I don't really...
  24. Cold Light optics question - anyone want to take this on?

Hey- so I have a fairly modified DeVere 504 I've been using for years. Originally it was a Dichro model but I gutted the head to put in a cold light (it's a nice aristo unit- though a BIT small for...
  25. Re: anyone use a Rodenstock 210mm APO Sironar S on 8x10

If I can find myself a 210 Super Angulon or 200 Grandagon I'd be probably fairly happy to part with it as I need a bit more coverage for some architecture oriented projects...
  26. Re: Which Wide Angle Lense for architecture and interior

Everyone has their opinion on this and their own technical rationalization but just to throw in my two cents - 99% of the time you will be using a 75 through 120mm for interiors depending on the...
  27. Re: anyone use a rhodenstock 210mm apo sironar s on 8x10

    will do, Vinny...
  28. Re: anyone use a rhodenstock 210mm apo sironar s on 8x10

oh thanks Bob! That's quite impressive considering that's almost the entire field of illumination. I guess that's what a large bore will get you (less elliptical compression as seen from the edges...
  29. Re: anyone use a rhodenstock 210mm apo sironar s on 8x10

Holy Crap... I just picked one of these up (the 'W' I mean)- HUGE LENS! Probably the biggest modern lens i've ever handled outside of a 480 sironar/symmar or whatever it was... anyone know what the...

Re: Cheap light 4x5 camera for architecture.

I'd DEFINITELY go with an F2 or something like that for starting out (AND staying with) - an EXCELLENT and VERY underrated alternative is a Cambo Legend (well made and cheap!). They can do everything...
  31. Re: Hello and some questions - from an almost converted LF photographer in Sydney

Oh yes! Most DEFINITELY you can get an incredible sense of tactility in a well done photographic print. After many years of working with larger format cameras I've decided this must really be the...

    Re: 8x10 enlarger from a sinar p

    Re: 8x10 enlarger from a sinar p

Redshift - not sure why you felt the compulsion to mount your lens backwards - that's only going to (in theory only possibly) reap results if you're trying to reduce the size of the image down from...
