    Re: Mentor reflex 9x12

I used to own one of these. It's nice because there are geared front swing and tilt. The bad thing about these cameras is that the shutter is super super finicky. I had mine rebuilt by Ken Ruth at...

  3. Re: Traditional photography

AFAIK, most one hour places don't have the right reels to process 120. Why would they? If you are running the photo lab at the local Rite Aid, why would you try and convince your boss to buy that...

Re: Digital Silver Gelatin has arrived...

Sure, Jack. Indeed I was looking at the Glossy version. It has a more plasticky feel to it than FB paper. When I laid it next to 10 prints made on various traditional papers, the difference was...

Re: Digital Silver Gelatin has arrived...

Yeah, it's hard to quantify, Jim. But it definitely does not feel like a FB silver gelatin print. The surface is worlds apart from that. But it does take the ink nicely.

Re: Digital Silver Gelatin has arrived...

I did some tests on this paper and I have to say I disagree with the OP very strongly. This paper doesn't even come close to having the "feel" or surface quality of a good air dried glossy FB print....

    Re: Modern Daguerreotype

Does anyone know why it's necessary to use silver plated copper as opposed to say, silver plated aluminum? A cheaper base metal plate?

  12. Re: Rapid Rectilinear better with Yellow Filter?

Shoot with a yellow filter. It will improve contrast and overall sharpness in my experience.

  13. Re: Looking for New Pictorialst society or other like groups

I don't believe they are still active. I have several of their newsletters bound into a hardback book. They were led by Ed Romney (I believe that was name) who published some Graflex repair books and...

    Re: Universal Lens Mount Question

Two of mine are painted black, the other, larger one is silver. I've never had any problems with flare or anything like that and I shoot pretty large diameter brass lenses outside almost every day.

    Re: what 8x10 camera..?

Kodak Master View. Affordable, versatile, and tough. I once hit a rather aggressive heroin dealer in the head with mine in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco one foggy evening.

Re: Why Mr Burnett loves a speed graphic

I've got a graflex lensboard that someone has welded a short tube with threads on the front that match up with Aero Ektar. Adds some weight, but it's easy. I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to...

  22. Re: I'd Like to Find The Guy That Invented Readyloads....

Well, the Readyload accounted for about 10% of film shot that day, so I wasn't relying heavily on it and I've never failed someone paying for my services yet. Different photographers shoot in...

  26. I'd Like to Find The Guy That Invented Readyloads....

Re: Yet another new picture thread!

Yeah, I wasn't too thrilled with the situation, either. But still, I've got a lot of brass lenses and there's always a really special one buried in there somewhere.
