I really like the transmission jack option, but the fact the saddle/platform spins freely doesn't really work. I wonder if there is a model where it won't spin, or if there is a way to stop it from...

Those look great as well! Only issue is it costs almost the same amount as the camera.
My god that's beautiful. Wonder where I could ever find one of those!
This looks promising for sure. Some of them even look like they can tilt. The trick is finding one with a good range for subjects sitting and standing.
Thanks for thinking of that Cameron. I follow her on Instagram. She’s great.
I reached out to her over a week ago and no reply unfortutnely. From what I can see in her photos she uses a Dewalt...
Hahaha.
Randy, it’s a 24x24 Chamonix field camera, but I’ll primarily be using it in the studio. I’ll be shooting wet plate with it.
I don’t have it yet, but it should be here (along with a...
Any suggestions for a stand for a 24x24 ULF Chamonix camera? I’ve looked at miter saw tables, scissor lifts, standing desks and hydrolic lifts, but I wanted to see if you guys had any other...
Thanks Pali!
I think I'm going to get the bellows made this time, it was insane making one last time and that was only for a 8x10. I heard custom custombellows.co.uk do a good job. I'm going to...
Hi Pali,
Your camera looks amazing! I remember seeing this on a blog post somewhere before, but it's really awesome to read this thread and the making of.
I made a simple 8x10 about a year and...
Nope, just looking for a lens that will cover 24x24 at 1:1 for portraits. Anything extra is just bonus points. Think they are all fairly similar in that range no? The Germinar is just what I've come...
Thank you for your reply Emmanuel!
Looks like maybe it will work, but maybe not. I'm not too worried about softness in the corners since this will be used for portraits. A little softness would be...
Hello,
I'm looking for a lens that will work with the 24x24 wet plate camera I'm building. I'm going to be using this camera for portraits, so the lens only needs to cover that size at around 1:1....
Looks amazing. How did you strip the paint?
Took it apart. It's a petzval! The rear has two elements and the front appears to have two cemented.
Thanks for the info guys I may try taking it apart to see if the rear is air spaced.
Measured it again at home. It's listed faintly on the side of the lens as a 15" FL, but I measured it out at 16". The visual opening at the narrowest part of the lens is about 3.75". Think that makes...
Hello,
I'm looking to find out a little more information on a lens I just found at an antique store.
It's a Bausch and Lomb. I measured (roughly) the focal length at 24" and the aperture at f6...
Here's my 8x10 I built. I constructed it out of poplar for the body, MDF for the film and ground glass holder and fake leather for the bellows. Took about 40 to 50 hours to build. I designed it in...
Thank you for this post goamules! I was measuring the internal iris and though my aperture was a lot smaller than what it turned out to be.
I made mine out of layers of .25" MDF. You could also use wood. I made the ground glass holder the same way. This way it was super easy to make sure the ground glass was on the same plane as the...
I would love to see everyone's DIY cameras!
Post photos and descriptions of them here. Maybe even a little story about them.
No shutter. I'll be using this for wet plate, so I'll just be using a DIY lens cap as a shutter. I'll either be using natural light with long exposures, or strobes for portraits.
I paid more than what what that lens went for in that auction. About double. Maybe I paid too much, but it's in amazing condition, minus the chip (on the outer region) on the back element.
The 8x10 camera I will be using it on is one I made https://www.instagram.com/p/BHWDgNrhQtA/
The 14x17 I was thinking of buying is the Chamonix http://www.chamonixviewcamera.com/
Thanks for all the info everyone.
I bought the 400mm f4 Charles Shepherd. I figured I can at least use it with my 8x10. I'll try it with my 14x17 when I get it. I'll post some picks when I do....
Wow. Thank you for all the info!! Since I'm looking to do portraits only, I won't really need to go to infinity. Do you think of the efl and aperture are correct it will cover this type of usage for...
Hi!
This is my first post here. So hello 👋
I'm in the hunt for a lens that will cover 8x10 all the way up to 14x17 for portraits. 1:1 and waists up.
I have someone who is offering to sell...
