I was a member of both ASMP and NPPA during the 80's and early 90's. Neither at the time offered much of an insurance benefit. What was available was easily matched on the open market. I eventually...
WOW...and to think I've had friends killed trying to produce photo stories that would net less than a grand in Newsweek...
Pete i am experiencing the same thing in australia digital shooters tend to take the attitude i can always delete rather than get it right by improving their technique.

I once used black mat board for all of my B&W prints. All of the opions stated above are valid, but there is an issued not discussed. This may not apply to your situation. Few photographers lug...
Hermit,
Your post is inane. You preface it by saying "I have never seen an issue of VC". How can you comment on this magazine, especially, if you work in large format, without having seen it? I...
what stuff would that be ... karma?
Since we all work with reflected light, my advice is:
Be careful what you bounce off your subject (:
Makes me wish I had at least one more piece of technology at my disposal - a time machine.

So true. I remember seeing many of these old, out-of-date lenses gathering dust in local camera...
Just a note of thanks to everyone who worked on this deal. It looks real kewl...
I agree with what Oren said. Whatever it was...(:
jbhogan,
Thanks for the update. I always thought the Rephotographic project was an absolutely fine documentary study. It would be kinda of cool if some of you young guns did a 2025 version.
Gotta' love a good hot rodder...
Hey Richard,
You are absolutely right! Pedro Meyer has put together an excellent site. The commentary is thought provoking and the galleries are fun to peruse.
Cheers,
Jeffrey,
I don't get it either. What I really don't get are the defensive replies when someone asks what is the appeal of this work?
What a magical list of fine books. I've read and or own many. I'll toss out "The Complete Photographer", a ten volumn set published by Willard Morgan in 1942. Everyone you ever heard of from that era...
Kirk and marko nailed IT...
Chanted to Jim Morrison's "We Want the World" anthem....
...We Want the Calendar and we want it...
drum roll.....now NOW!!
Congrats Kirk.
Hi Mark,
I've done this before. You need a to mix a batch of diluted Farmers Reducer and submerge the entire print. Since the highlights clear first, it is relatively easy to determine how long to...
I'll second hermits call on Linux with Firefox (1.5) and Konqueror. Also, works with Seamonkey.
Good luck with Safari.
Frank,
Enjoyed viewing your galleries. I'm impressed....
If you live in a big city and your retailer is across town, NewEgg is much more convenient. Their shipping is measured in days not weeks. Some of the large NYC photo warehouses should take customer...
I agree with Emre. Thunderbird makes email life much easier. It takes a few days for TB to "learn" which messages are junk but afterwards gets it right 98% of the time.
Let me add to the chorus of congratulations. You keep good company.
I covered the California Legislature as a wire service photographer for a

...the Minutemen near the border with their lawn chairs and binoculars would make an interesting project (:
Emre,
I've got 2.2.9 installed and don't think CMYK is enabled. Perhaps next weekend I'll compile the latest edition and see if this feature has been incorporated. What I really wish is that Adobe...
Paul, basically I've migrated from Windows to Linux so most software bundles are of no use. I've downloaded the VueScan demo for Linux and am impressed. I think Vue Scan offers a calibration module...
Kirk or anyone else:
Are there any hardware differences between the 4990 Pro and the 4990? The bundled software packages wouldn't be of any use to me.
Some of my B&W prints were dry mounted over 30 years ago and they still look fine. Well, the photography vision was a bit immature but the prints do not exhibit any sign of deterioration. The school...
...Kodak probably used the Microsoft spell chucker.
These photos look like culls to me. The best of the lot is the upside down chick showing her underwear but it's just a stunt.
I'll second Keeble and Shuchat. It's an easy drive from the city 'cept during the Christmas season...(:
This is a great thread and it reminds me of a now humorous incident that occurred many years ago. I have a photojournalist background so my views on print quality may be somewhat different than the...
Konqueror displays the images ok. Gotta' admit I'm confused by "deadpan photojournalism". Perhaps you should visit the Magnum site...
Misha Gordin's work is duende 10 to the 10th power...thanks for the link.
