Wow! That's fantastic! The light is incredible, particularly over that open landscape. Very atmospheric!

I first saw this on a bad monitor and completely missed the pattern of light sort of radiating around & above the central focal point. Now that I see it right it's really outstanding - wow!
:) I'd leave it as is too. Yeah, you can see the shadow, but it isn't distracting and it would compromise the image more to crop it, in my opinion.
I normally don't get the opportunity to shoot...
Wow, just a perfect reflection David. I love the way the reflected image seems complete, and how the stones beneath the water really only come through in the sky's reflection. Lovely!
/sorry if...
Luc, great series - all three. Looks like I see a few legs in that last one (two human, one from the tripod). :)
I've got another from my trip to Mount Rainier last month...
...
Looks a whole lot like my own! :D
(In reality, I'm completely jealous of all these darkrooms. I have room for 6 5x7 trays on a table in the storage room, sink is in the next room next to the...
Zach, the Redwoods turned out great, if you ask me. I know you had some other very strong images from that trip, so I'm sure you are being overly critical. Exposures a tricky in there and this was...
Luc - That's beautiful. I love the foreground. I'm surprised at the relative clarity of the reflections.
Zach - One of my favorite spots in the world. It's a shame about the flare. Some flare...
Beautiful!
Thanks Zach! I actually had some confusion in my notes about exactly how I exposed it (sloppy notes) so I'm very happy to have not completely screwed it up. :p
Thank you very much! Just...
EOTS, Luc, Polyglot - Thanks very much!
Joel - Thank you as well - I appreciate what you mean. I'm as guilty as anyone for the usual Rainier shots, but I was really pleased to get up close and...

Very nicely done! I really love the sense of depth that faint haze provides.
Wonderful result - I love it! I don't even own a green filter - I'm curious what sort of effect it had here. ...
Oh, that is nice.
I have almost no toning experience, but I did just recently do my first test (and I was giddy over the beautiful results).
I toned 4 4x5 contact prints and left a 5th untoned. I used Kodak Rapid...
Was this the print you were referring too a while back? This looked to me like it had a soft texture of watercolour paper underlying the image.
Either way, it's an absolutely beautiful result!
I'm sure he can address you, but I thought I'd mention that he entertained some similar questions over on the flickr page which might shed some light...

Velvia is pretty rich, for sure. Sometimes it's too much, but sometimes I still think it's miraculous stuff. To each his or her own, for sure.
I will say however, that after shooting a couple...
Well, as I mentioned over on flickr I concern myself not so much with middle-gray, per se, but rather a few common elements that seem to come up again an again, namely...
Blue Sky - Best between...
Glad to help/clarify
...and yes, it's Tyler :)
The usual caveats apply - test with your own equipment (meter, shutter, etc) when possible. There might be a little more latitude than that, but not much, IMHO.
I went through lots of trial and...
I should have been clearer, but yes, that's what I meant. :)
Beautiful Giovanni! I definitely would have been concerned about Velvia for a scene like that - ND Grads would be key!
I just wanted to add that I am in complete agreement about white texture. ...
To essentially repeat what others have said, exposures look fine, but you will run into trouble with high-contrast scenes. As a rule of thumb, I almost never include the sky in a photo taken on...
mdm - I can't even imagine. :) I find it really tough to actually find REAL prints to look at (silver, digital, or otherwise) anywhere, and hate to think I'm missing out on just seeing photos...
Sorry for the large size

This embodies so much of the joy and frustration of photography to me.
In the hands of someone who knows what they're doing, something like this can be brought to life and made into a beautiful...

Outstanding - I love it!
For the record, I'd happily trade some of my "successful" photos for your "disappointing" shots. ;) I think it's a beauty! (though I agree with others, that it might work best with a horizontal crop...
Well Zaitz, if you're not sick of hearing it yet, let me also add a "Wow!" Outstanding - what beautiful color!
Wow, that's actually really cool - it covers a lot of considerations for shooting a typical 35mm camera.
Sadly, I know of nothing like it for LF, so I don't have anything helpful to contribute,...
Naturally I didn't see this post until today. As much as I love photography, I almost never get to SEE prints first-hand (online posts are not the same). Thanks for the heads-up! I'm not sure when...
As Neal said, start by checking with your city/municipality. Here in Seattle they advise combining developer and stop bath together, which can go down the drain. Fixer however cannot, but can be...
That math seems right to me.
At 260mm bellows extension, the lens-to-subject distance would be about 1 meter away, focusing on an area about 21x17 inches. I'd say you're doing the math right (or...
It's funny, I saw the original post and have watched the thread evolve as well. It's not what I anticipated either, but I've learned a lot myself (and I've been messing with 4x5 for a number of...
Well, this has all been totally enlightening to me. I have nothing to add, other than thanks for pointing out this resource for my own enjoyment. :)
Thanks Luc! I would love to say I had a wonderful time taking that shot, but I was really just worrying about the wind ruining the shot (and praying I figured out the combined filter and reciprocity...
Wow, a full page of fantastic work - my kudus to everyone posted above!
My humble offering, from Zion (Taylor Creek Canyon), back in May and just after sunset....
That's a good point - I don't see any halo in the likely spots at all, for example. Nicely sharpened indeed (I always struggle with this for posting online, even though I feel like I shouldn't).
Luc - I have nothing helpful or insightful to add, other than to mention that I am once again a fan of your photographs. I think the Abbot Pass photo in particular is outstanding (but they all are)....
