Question: With NegPos (or whataver the new version is called) - can the process be batched up to process multiple images at a time?
This is much less true than epson would have you believe....if you use ColorBase you can bring the 800 series closer together for sure but if you're running just one printer and want the best from...
Having personally owned a Flextight II (long since sold) and had it sitting immediately next to an Epson 4870, I can promise you the Imacon is far, far, far, far better than the Epson. Having also...
Hi
I'm Jeremy, I run Image Science (http://www.imagescience.com.au) and we do scanning on an Imacon Flextight 949. It's a pretty serious machine and you should give it a try to see it if suits...
Soft proofs, especially when using canned profiles, apparently do not tell an accurate story in this case. You simply can not evaluate a paper in any sensible way without making some real prints. ...
Commercial plug - If you're in Australia (or not afraid of international shipping), you can try Image Science. Rolls in stock now! Sheets due soon. Their is also a printing service using Silver...
Richard White does courses as well. Rumour has it they're good, but only if you're totally film centric as his digital phobia is legendary.
He gives the courses in the Victorian High Country and...
There are heaps of labs in Australia that deal with 4 by 5 film, you are mis-informed. Really, there's no shortage at all, so unless you can offer anything that is at least as good in quality and...
2040 PPI is the max optical res on an Imacon 949 with 4 by 5" film.
It's very sharp with it (even with the software sharpening set to off, yes I know the -120 trick), so you really get your 2040...
Image Science Flextight Scanning direct link.
We do our Flextight 949 scans from 4 by 5" film to 476 Mb (16 bit scans) (this biggest optical res you can get from the Imacon) for Australian $25 (about $18 of your US dollars I think).
Less for...
QImage can be set to send its output to a file rather than a printer, so yes you can save the output of QImage to send to a RIP.
Mind you Qimage can handle ICC profiles just fine and you may not...
I have an Ebony RW45 and I live in Melbourne (near the Queen Vic markets). Drop me an email and we can work out a time for you to see the real thing up close.
Cheers

Also, a third recommendation for Pixel Perfect - they're very good indeed. They are seriosuly into colour management, and do a near perfect job there.
However on the negative side they do sharpen...
Shameless plug:
Australians looking for affordable high quality scanning might want to look at:

Fixing No.1 above may be as simple as renaming the profile from *.icc to *.icm or vice versa - some windows programs are picky with this, some aren't. Worth a try!
In my experience, it compares very favourably. With 6 by 12s I've never felt a need for anything more than the 949 and I haven't met an operator who can consistently deliver me a better file than I...
First and foremost, experience.
Scanning an obviously unsharp original is not a great way to test a scanner for one.
I have an Epson 4870 sitting next to an Imacon 949 on my desk, and a good...
You see these things sometimes - people using an unsharp original to evaluate a scanner, or bad technique with a scanner, or whatever.
Having done MANY comparisons of Epsons vs Imacons and Drums,...
You might also try the Camera Clinic in Collingwood - they may not be able to do it themselves (indeed I suspect it's not their bag), but they may well know a specialist who is Melbourne based.
Where you had to interpolate up, what method was used?
No, you don't need to get the standards in position before mounting the lens. I do it all the time with the lens on, its easy.
Some lovely shots indeed. Only problem is most seem clearly over-sharpened, with visible haloes. This is on a CRT, on an LCD the haloes would be worse.
The trick with sharpening is to go gently...
New B & W LF Film in sheets to 8 by 10
Looks like it is actually made by Maco.
Well, I can easily see the differences in A3 prints (even A4) between an Imacon and an Epson 4870 - do the same image with both and you'll see the differencei in detail and three...
For God's sake anyone who has a problem with reproduction of THAT needs to seriously lighten up. With a billion serious/interesting/important things in the world, why waste time worrying about that?...
If the order is under $250 AU (including the postage when the calculate duties) then there are no import duties at all...two boxes of quickies plus postage (40 sheets), or probably a 2 * 50 sheet...
Hmm...ordering 20 sheet quickloads from B & H is still cheaper than normal sheet film over here (About $5.50 all in for the quickloads from B & H, $6 each for the normal sheet film from Vanbar). B &...

I suggest reading some of the recent messages at the Yahoo Epson 4870 group before you make a decision one way or the other...
