I've been trying to shoot still lifes (or lives?) but the only thing i want to read on the negative is the object and none of the background. I've been using a peice of black velveteen that...

Hi,
I've been trying to shoot still lifes (or lives?) but the only thing i want to read on the negative is the object and none of the background. I've been using a peice of black velveteen that...
Hi,
So one of my side projects is looking for a smallish field/view camera to shoot hand-held using 405 pack film and 120 backs. i know the little century graphics come with graflock backs, but...
I'm the road for saving to buy a beat up house, but pretty much everyone had that idea. They all bought houses and tried to flip them, and now with the housing market practically crashing houses are...
I know that when a lens is at its focal length from the film plane, it is focused for infinity. IE and 90mm lens 90mms from the film plane. But how do you find out what the lens to object distance is...
I live in Baltimore city where places that are completely new, renovated, and currently out of my price range are only 1-2 city blocks away from neighborhoods full of boarded up houses getting ready...
looks like i'll get to find out weather it'll work for myself since i ended up buying it...
So if i wanted to mount this thing, shutter free into a copal 0 lens board, all i need is an extra copal 0 mounting ring to get it to fit onto the board? with a quick search on ebay i haven't found...
is this compatible with the 4x5 cambo sc? i know some calument/cambo stuff isn't compatible but i don't know when the switchovers occured and if the sc is a newer or older style.
So i looked up the size for the ilex 3 shutter that the caltar-s 215mm comes in, and it appears to be a little over 50mm. where can i find a lens board with this size hole, or get one drilled?
Would this lens fit in a copal 0 board if you directly mounted it without a shutter?
These are the first photos i've posted on this forum. i've been hesitant to post any photos on the internet just because people love to steal my work for some reason, this typically happens to the...
Ironic how its so advanced but what's the catch? oh, its just ANOTHER thing that runs on gasoline! Makes me think of the fireman's dog in Fahrenheit 451 that can hunt you down from 10 miles away and...
that's one thing i've considered, and maybe finding the finest grain, lowest speed film may help?
well the actual goal is macro photography, getting a lot of DOF with it was just the curious part that kept coming up in stuff i read. The main idea of my project was wanting to shoot small-ish...
interesting. I think i'm going to end up buying both of those books once this amazon gift certificate i'm getting comes in the mail. If what you say is correct, then I guess it would be most...
Hey,
So i've got myself interested in this macro project and now I can't stop thinking about it till i figure it out. For simplicity sake, the objects i'm photographing are 3D and are about half...
I haven't seen the 30" rail available anywhere besides the calumet website (which sells for 200 dollars!) along with an intermediate standard which i haven't been able to find anywhere. Maybe i could...
I came across a symmar 180/315 convertible in a copal shutter that i might end up buying. It seems to be the best fit for my lens selection right now. I have a nikkor 120sw and a symmar-s 150mm. If i...
So I have the 21" cambo rail for my SC and was wondering if a longer one is available...
that's more than enough for a 4x5. does it fit in a standard copal 3 sized hole?
You know where i can get some info on the caltar 215 lenses? the ones i'm seeing are 4.8 and i'm wondering how much they cover and what they convert to...
the 150 I have is a symmar-s, so i don't think it would work, but i will try! I've noticed that the non-S symmars are all older, a lot of them are in compur shutters and seem to be more expensive....
I just want to throw my 2 cents on the printing resolution end. I normally print stuff at 160-200 dpi on an epson and I can hardly tell its a digital print. It seems like overkill to NEED to print...
I've shot maybe one or two portraits with my 4x5. I pretty much did the same thing as the original poster and it turned out surprisingly well. Does anyone find it strange though, that you have to...
I think the 210mm symmar is the perfect lens for me. I'm in the market for a 210 or 240 so the convertible part is just an extra plus. The longest rail i have is 21" so i wont quite get to a 1:1 with...
The longest lens i have for 4x5 is 150mm. Is there a good place to start when looking for convertible lenses? Keh doesn't seem to have a lot. any recommendations?
Anyone out there make their own hand help point and shoot 4x5s? Im trying to think of a simple solution for just modifying some view camera parts to use a dedicated polaroid 405 holder and a lens...
I've found that slides are much easier to scan, especially on flatbed scanners. You can also see exactly what you're shot looks like if you have a positive on it, and just wait till you have enough...
Being that my combi plan can apparently develop 6 glass plates at a time, id figured id look into it. anyone know a good starting point to start reading?
Does anyone know if the 5.6 version of this lens offers any more coverage?
I'm looking at the 4x5 lens charts on this website and found that there is no info on any Caltar lenses. Do they go by a different name, or is there a comparable brand on this list?
its not sad they are making better film, i just remember using tmax in school and immediately going back to ilford just because it looked better to me. i then tried tri-x which still looked smoother...
that's sad about the older films, i always preferred the look of fp4/hp5 and tri-x and i don't think i could get myself to use tmax. Ilford delta film seems to have the same slow characteristics too....
So,
I've read data sheets on the fuji site that claim most of their slide films don't need reciprocity adjustment unless the exposures are over 2 minutes. On the other hand, this data sheet for...
I picked up a box full of cokin p filters with a filter holder and a 77mm and 58mm adapter (with are exactly the mount of my 120mm and 150mm) for 15 dollars at a yard sale a few months ago. I don't...
Hi, i know this barely covers 4x5; but are there any movements you can get away with on this lens? i know any lens tilts/shifts are out of the question, but can you get just little tilt/swing from...
1. When you acquire a ton of film holders for whatever reason (here, ebay, etc) and the last person that used them had their own little system sharpied on the labels; how to do you remove the...
sounds good. i forgot to mention that the reason i wanna make sure its reliable is because i have the option to buy more of the same exact film.
So I got 50 sheets of provia 4x5 that expired 2004. What's the best way to shoot a test of this to see if there is any color/contrast shift short of buying a fresh box and comparing it side by side....
I just developed my first b&w 4x5 film ever today using the combi-plan tank, so i can chip in a little insight. What bjorn says is totally true about filling from the bottom spout while on its side....
