Re: DIFF? "Fast" vs "Slow" lens at Small Apertures?

There will be different image characteristics due to different lens designs but no difference in the fundamentals like DOF etc. If anything, some really fast lenses might be optimized for wide open...

Re: Chamonix Owners - Still in Love?

Yep. After more than a year of use, I still love it. Works as advertised, no fuss, no surprises - a joy to use.

And I think there are certainly more than 5 Chamonix owners here.

That back shift mechanism is brilliant! Like an arca clamp. None of the Wistas, Tachiharas or Ikedas I've seen have that.

Re: Long arca plate for Chamonix 4x5?

Long arca plate for Chamonix 4x5?

Is anyone using one of those 6" or so long arca style plates on a Chamonix? Does anyone make these rails with both a 3/8 and a 1/4 screw? I can only find ones with two 1/4-20 screws but the Chamonix...

    Re: Worst View Camera Ever?

A Bender 4x5 would be it for me if it weren't so darn cheap. But generally I dislike all monorails where the rail sticks in your throat.

Thanks, Erie. I'll take a look.I think Sanders uses a tele-rollei mostly, though and they both use strobes. I'm mostly thinking of available light candid stuff.

    Another way to test shutters

A few months ago, I described a way to test shutters with a DSLR. If you already own one, it's a very cheap and reasonably accurate method to try.

I have tried the photo-transistor testers and I...

    Re: 2x3 monorails?

I doubt lenses made for the Oly 4/3 system would focus at portrait distances with the plunger attached. The reason lenses made for Minolta do better is that their flange distance is about 43-44mm. So...

    Re: 2x3 monorails?

The 4/3 system has a film to flange distance of about 38.8mm. So any of those lenses, to focus on infinity would have to be 38.8mm from the film plane. But even then they would not cover 2x3 film. If...

Re: How to achieve skin almost without sructure

Red will lighten red. For caucasian skin, which is light, this means reddish imperfections will blend in. Green, blue etc will darken reddish imperfections, making them stand out against light skin.

    Re: Bellow extension expsosure help!

    Re: Bellow extension expsosure help!

Depends on the magnification. And the magnification you'll get from a certain extension/bellows depends on the lens. With a 75mm lens at 150mm extension you'd be at life size and need to correct for...

    Re: Bellow extension expsosure help!

Divide the extension by the focal length of the lens. Then square it. Can be done mentally. If you want, use the calculator on your cell phone. If your extension is 300mm and you are using a 150mm...

  36. Re: Are there any 3-way heads that can take an arca style QR clamp?

  39. Are there any 3-way heads that can take an arca style QR clamp?
