    Re: Post your churches

Very nice. Those hills look like they are a painted background. Really smooth transition.

    Re: Camera for Africa trip

If you have a reliable soviet camera that could be an option. But taking a camera, a manual, a box of tools and spare parts might be spoiling the mood from time to time.

    Re: Camera for Africa trip

6x9 would be my choice. If I look at my negatives then I'm more then satisfied with those. Also easier to travel with an more types of film available.

    Re: Rusted shutter leafs

I take this is a simple shutter like an Ilex. Then you have a good chance if you can get the rust off.

This is the use for WD40, WD stands for "water displacement".

    Re: Rusted shutter leafs

I'm a bit curious myself. I have had a very rusted Synchro-Compur #00 and didn't get it off without damaging the blades. Using vinegar made just holes in the blades. That can depend on how rusty and...

    Re: Post your churches

It always amazes me how on earth did they build a church (or castle) at places like that with the tools of the time? This chapel was build around 969 and enlarged in the 12th century! It's not like...

    Re: starting out...

Wide enough? A 100mm on 6x9 is about the same as the 80mm on your 645 for a point of field of view. But you can have a 50mm for the Mamiya Press which would be about the same as the 35mm of the 645....

    Re: Wista 4x5 camera question

No, forget it. The distance the bellows can change it too small. This is really made for the few lenses made for it and making portraits at a couple of meters distance. If you want to collect cameras...

    Re: Wista 4x5 camera question

I think he stumbled on a Wista "TLR" Id camera. That one has a square bellows all the way and 2 metal strips at the side to guide the front. But it is not a technical camera by any means and it isn't...

    Re: starting out...

Depends on what you want I guess (I have no clue what a new enlerger costs). A working Mamiya Press with lens and 6x9 back isn't that expensive but you give up on movements. It can even use sheet...

Re: Wet Plate for Architectural & Portrait

What enlarger do you have / can you find / do you have the place for? Doesn't make sense to get a format larger than your enlarger unless you want to do contact printing.

    Re: Jobo 2509N reel problem

I did have trouble with the 2509n in the CPE2 but that went away when using the high speed setting. At low speed I had marks at the short end of the film.
  13. Re: Any Real Reason To Favor One Particular Lens Line?

Ssssssttttt... More cheap(er) lenses for us. :) Fuji doesn't seem to be popular in the US, they prefer the German lenses for some reason.
  14. Re: Any Real Reason To Favor One Particular Lens Line?

Only reason I prefer the Fuji CM-W line is that in the focal lengths I prefer they all use a 67mm filter so I only have a single set to take along.

    C. Zeiss Tessar 105/3.5

I found on my shelf a "Carl Zeiss Tessar 1:3.5 f=105mm" in a Linhof branded Synchro Compur. I guess I bought it more for the shutter then the lens. But I'm a bit wondering what this is for kind of...

    Re: Unscrewing super-old lens cells

Another thing that sometimes helped me was putting the front of the lens on a piece of rubber, flat on the desk. And then turn the rest of the lens while pressing on it from above.

Re: How have you shopped for lenses over the years?

Just_don't_tempt_me! I really "need" the SWD 65, CM-W 105 and L 400. And an SF of course but with all the sieves. Not that I have taken any 4x5 the last 2 years but they would sit nice in the cabinet.

  21. Re: Ilex #3 Acme Synchro shutter disassembly for CLA??

  24. Re: What's your favorite internet falsehood on photography?

Re: identification of old French wooden camera

  29. Re: Linhof Technika IV (and later) Optical Centre

Re: DIY shutter-speed tester: Informed opinions?

It was, but it all depends on what you want to do and need to measure. You really don't need a 6GHz 4 channel one if it is only for shutters, then the max speed is 1/8000s or 0.125 milliseconds. For...
