For shorter distances I use an old "portable computer" bag for my D2 and a canvas bag (military?) for my Century Universal. The bag for the D2 has dividers and even an outside compartment. I can fit...
Thanks everyone. I'll send Carol a message. What happened to my shutter was that a few blades somehow got unaligned and literally smashed each other to pieces. I'll try the spring steel route; but am...
During an act of unspeakable stupidity on my part, I managed to accidentally break a couple of shutter blades of an old Multi Speed Shutter. Looks like the original blades were made of thin (and...
I knew it looked familiar, it IS the railclamp of a Kardan Master TL (should have known all along, because I got one ... will double check later tonight).
Looks like the bottom rail clamp of a Linhof Kardan (GT?).
Took a while; but here they are - a couple of pics showing the crank.
Alex - you owe me big time ... making me dig through 20+ boxes in storage to find the camera in question ;)
Alex, I'll try to dig mine out next week and do some pics (it's packed away in the "project" storage stack, and I'll have to finish an important deadline first). The crank is basically a small...
Almost everyone is still using the old forum (it's a busy place), or as Mark Twain would say:"The reports of its death are greatly exaggerated" .
Hi Andrew,
Close, but not close enough, sorry. Lancaster made a myriad of different looking models experimenting with weird hardware and equally wacky names to match. The camera in your link is yet...
It's a Lancaster, missing the crank for extending the bed. I have one in whole plate; but mine is currently sans bellows.
Harold's method works well ... I've used it for a number of unrelated projects; but be warned, it's a slow process (compared to using power tools) and the hand filing will get you to look like Popeye...
I use a combination of all of the above. Dedicated lensboards for some lenses, adapter for using smaller boards, and the universal iris's. Lensboards can be made on the cheap with basic woodworking...
A few pics of my work horse 2D. I can't complain about the mod, it's functional and works quite well.
The camera looks like a Century Lantern Slide Camera or Folmer duplicating cameras.
To close the camera, you probably have to push the two "diagonal" struts a bit down to release them (the upper end of them is probably spring loaded). The camera should then fold and the open/close...
I'll see if I get around during the Holidays to take a few pics of my 2D. It got a pretty decent front standard mod (swing and tilt). Don't know who built it (bought it used); but it's on a pro level...
Steven, I think the underlying problem is that one has first to know what to search for. That can be a serious issue for anyone new to the field (what exactly am I looking for, where to start,...
LOL, I haven't won the lottery just yet. Would love to keep both - I know both systems and have worked with both.
Good points. The Linhof was my first LF camera, bought it for college. It feels more solid and rugged than the Sinar, however the Sinar is easier to operate (yaw free, "DoF estimator"). I better have...
I have a bit of a dilemma. My own camera system of many years is a Linhof Bi-Kardan. I haven't used it much lately to be honest (prefer 8x10 wooden cameras for wetplate etc). But now, a good friend...
The kit you're referring to, belongs to a friend of mine. It DOES include bag bellows and extension rail (check the pics in that thread). If the price is good or not, I don't know; but I thought it...
It's definitely a custom job; but it's well integrated (ie not a home made hack). The brass strips are to hold the front standard together (otherwise it would most certainly break in the spot where...
One of my (antique) field cameras has a customized front standard (see pics). It looks like the modification was done by the manufacturer (there are parts missing). Does anyone know what this...
hockey tape ... cheap and works perfectly (at least for me).
I could be wrong, but I see it as a potential weak-spot for light leaks developing. What if the wood starts to work when the holder is subjected to changing temperature/moisture levels (yes, I know,...
I took a closer look at the auction images - looks as if the guy uses layers of plywood to build-up thickness of his holders. If you check his other auctions (the one about the "conversion frame for...
ditto, it's a "C" ... cross between the F and P
Fourtoes post earlier pretty well illustrates that the stand can be disassembled rather easily, it's even simpler than the bi-post stands (at least the american made ones, can't speculate on the...
My concerns would be the condition of the bellows and if there are any plate holders that go with the camera. If there aren't any holders, you would need to get some custom made (as in extra...
way back, in the 70s, some companies offered a kind of mini-viewcamera for 35mm SLRs. The thing was basically a very fancy macro-bellows contraption and looked a lot like the L-standard Horsemans,...
I got one like this. Replaced the narrow top with a square one and cut a few large holes on it to reduce weight (looks now a lot like the swiss-cheese metal Canham's).
I just recently finished restoring my Ansco stand. Was the battleship/metallic grey "premium de luxe" version  . Anyhow, my original plan of stripping the paint and going with a wood finish...
Did you try a different USB cable (my 2400 gave me grieve with that)? Or what about plugging the printer into another computer? Sometimes something as simple as unplugging the power to "reset" might...
Well, Conley isn't Conley. I have a suspicion that the original poster means one of the self-encasing "cycle" cameras and not the much larger and sturdier Kodak 2D/Ansco/B&J/etc lookalikes. Most of...
A friend of mine gave me a Profoto zoomspot for free (among about 100 pound of grip gear:D ). It's one of the older Pro 2 heads with the rectangular plugs.
Lacking the fitting pack, I am now...
I am definitely interested too .. to fix one of my stands.
Steven - looks like you have just become the new "go-to" guy for camera stand repairs :D
Looking great - good job. Love the look of the "new" wheel.
I finished fixing-up my own two stands last weekend :) - an Ansco refinished in black ebony instead of the dead ugly mid-gray, and a...
That little knob is indeed for locking the bed. It's basically just a screw that pushes a thin strip of brass against the side of the sliding bed (friction lock). The brass strip (connected to the...
The holder for my camera (a Glock) looks exactly like the one Steven posted in his last post.
Emil, wondering if you could post some photos of the grundglass back and its design. While I have the...
