  1. Re: Waterhouse Stop Fabrication Alternatives in 2019?

    Understood.

I too value my time and would also rather spend my time photographing, in the darkroom printing or doing something creative like yourself. When I made these stops I did not look at...
  2. Re: Waterhouse Stop Fabrication Alternatives in 2019?

Ah yes, I just reread the OP's post that they did not want to pay someone to make nor spend the time to make their own. This is just my solution to my own lens that maybe some may find useful. I've...
  3. Re: Waterhouse Stop Fabrication Alternatives in 2019?

Just thought i'd chime in for anyone looking to make their own Waterhouse stops without access to a machine like a CNC. For mine I used black Polystyrene sheets which can be found online or at a...

Re: Where to repair my studio shutter?

Thanks Steven. I agree with the weakness around the holes in combination with material used.
As for the Iris clamps, What Roger mentioned with Chamonix having made one already.

Re: Where to repair my studio shutter?

If you are handy with things you may be able to fix it yourself. I had the same problem with a Studio shutter a while back. Actually with two of them.
For one of them I made a piece from a sheet of...
  7. Re: 14 1/2" f4.5 TTH Cooke maximum aperture opening?

Thanks Mark! Greatly appreciate it. Yep, the opening looks about the same as mine. I was thinking that about the elements magnifying the opening but was not sure because when I measured the actual...
  8. 14 1/2" f4.5 TTH Cooke maximum aperture opening?

I was cleaning a lens of mine today and noticed when the aperture is wide open the iris was still showing quite a bit. I'm wondering if this is normal for this particular lens and if anyone has the...
  9. Re: Velvet Replacement for 4x5 Graflex Super D/ Focus GG adjustment

    Ah, understood.

Yes, i agree. Very advanced for their time and such a pleasure to use!
  10. Re: Velvet Replacement for 4x5 Graflex Super D/ Focus GG adjustment

Randy, So the shape of the mirror plays a part with the sloped GG angle vs a conventional slr mirror?
Thanks for the link to that felt. It's looks like some handy stuff to have around.
  11. Re: Velvet Replacement for 4x5 Graflex Super D/ Focus GG adjustment

Mine has the slope as well. It's strange to me but i'm also curious about it's relation from the lens to the mirror to the GG.
  12. Re: Velvet Replacement for 4x5 Graflex Super D/ Focus GG adjustment

Thanks, Good to know. I think I will end up using the adhesive felt for the back.
As for the GG do you know if they should be 45 deg to the mirror?
  13. Re: Velvet Replacement for 4x5 Graflex Super D/ Focus GG adjustment

Mdarnton, thanks, i'll check that out. As for thickness I guess if it's too thick the holder won't catch properly into the side grooves and if it's good it'll be snug holding it to the proper plane...
  14. Re: Velvet Replacement for 4x5 Graflex Super D/ Focus GG adjustment

Randy, I have some felt with an adhesive back but thought maybe the velvet fabric might give a more light proof seal. I guess my real concern is the thickness of the original material.
  15. Re: Velvet Replacement for 4x5 Graflex Super D/ Focus GG adjustment

Mdarnton, I was going to make a GG for the back the same distance as a film holder to the film to check before adjusting anything. My ground glass brackets are not both the same with only...
  16. Velvet Replacement for 4x5 Graflex Super D/ Focus GG adjustment

Hey folks, I recently got a 4x5 Graflex super D and was wondering about the velvet on the back where the film holder meets with the camera. Mine looks like someone replaced and doubled up on the...

  19. Re: Suggestions on how to free up an old Brass Lens threads?

Hey guys, I'm trying again with lube and a hair dryer. Going to let it sit for a bit with the lube in hopes that it goes into the seam.

Garrett, that's a great idea with your "nutcracker"...
  20. Re: Suggestions on how to free up an old Brass Lens threads?

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I actually tried some lubricant called "The Original Release all" that mechanics supposedly use for seized threads.
    No luck though.

Re: Collodion - Wet Plate Images

No. If it were a shorter focal length that means one would have to move in even closer to the subject to fill the frame.

    Re: Removing a Graflok back....

Brian, did you remove the single screw located at the entrance of where the film holder slides into? I think there should be 6 screws in total if I recall. On a 4x5 anyways.
  26. Suggestions on how to free up an old Brass Lens threads?

I'm trying to free up the front and rear elements so I can clean the inside of the glass but can...
