Testing out a new lens
Hi Emil,
Would love to know a little more about your lighting technique, exposure times etc......have you posted any info elsewhere?
That actually looks pretty good!! I think I may try and mock something up this weekend, thank you!
Firstly, charmed to meet you too, glad you are able to judge me so quickly.
Secondly, if I'm behind the camera focusing, how will i be in front of the camera to be focused on? Surely it is...
Although I'm probably going to try and develop something more along the lines of the second design, even in this one, I would have attached the shutter to the lens after focussing or not put the...
I'm sure you understand the question Will, but possibly not the reason why I ask the question, the answer to which is twofold.
1. Cost
2. Building stuff is fun!
OK, I've gone in a slightly different direction now, inspired by the barn door idea:

Apologies for the giant sized image,...
Jac, how would it work with a cable release horizontally? I need to be able to open and close the shutter from distance and with little movement as I want to try some self portraits.
This...
Hey! I thought you were on the side of giving solutions not giving me more headaches!!! ;)
Ha, it's ok, I had a brainwave (possibly) following Jim's message. Anyone think something like this could work?

Indeed, that's the bit i was getting stuck at. The more I've investigated the more it seems I'll have to make some sort of Packard shutter, it will probably be the simplest way.
Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone might have a link for how to make a simple "bulb only" mode shutter. I am currently shooting with brass lenses on paper negatives so have exposures anywhere from...
This is really beautiful.
Another couple from me, these ones souped in day old Caffenol-C

Thank you. :)
So something a little different today, a reverse processed paper negative to produce a direct positive. It still needs a bit of work but I was pretty happy with this so thought I'd share.

This is stunning!
Eric, it was totally the second one! Or possible he was just irritated at his dad for dragging him away from YouTube to pose for pictures for him :)
Posted this in the Paper Negatives thread, I hope it's alright to cross post it here too.

Thank you Louis.
Been a while since I posted anything. Actually, it's been a while since I did any analogue photography!

Hi all, it's been a while since I posted anything. These are just some prints I made to feel my way back into LF and cyanotypes but they came out well enough that I thought I should share.

Lovely image JP but you'd be surprised how still kids can be. In this one I got my then 7yo to pose for a 15sec exposure!

Ok, so it's a little fuzzy but that's what you get when you mix 3 & 1/2 year olds and half second exposures. The pose is all his own.
(It's a long time since I shot LF and a good while longer...

I think, don't quote me, but Harmon were supplied the emulsion by "Ilford Imaging " that went under. I believe they are trying to buy the rights to the emulsion. Like I said, don't quote me.
Thank you.
Decided I needed to get something onto paper seeing as the cyanotypes are failing so badly.
Taken a couple of weeks ago as a first test onto film with the 4x5.

Thanks Joe! The funny thing is, most of the flaws on the print are from the glass I used when contact printing not from the neg!! :)
Have you seen some people's darkrooms?!? This isn't a lot of stuff! 😃
Jonathan, that goes to show that someone can produce beautiful work with very little stuff.
Here is my humble offering, a generic bathroom mirror selfie:

T0aster, those look wonderful. I love the clean simplicity of them and how relaxed the sitters look. Something for me to aim at!
Thanks Jonathan. He really did do well holding still, he was really fidgety while we set up but after one practice round we just went for it!
