  1. Re: Airport Scanners - the age old question (finally somewhat settled)

I found the airport security folks in many countries refused to hand inspect my film. This has happened to me in Australia, China, and Germany. Luckily, in none of those cases did my film get...

    Re: Prague, Czech Republic

Prague is a wonderful city to photograph. I was there 2 years ago and I didn't have my 4x5 with me (too bad), but I shot digital and mf. For example:

    Re: Toyo 45AX extension back

Did you need any metal parts or did you just cut slots in the wood to attach to the camera?

    Re: What causes cleaning marks?

I think the same paper is now being sold by Tiffen. The paper looks and feels the same, but the package is gray instead of Kodak yellow.
  6. Re: ColorNeg: NegPos successor for colour neg scanning

I run Nikon scan with my 9000 on a Mac with OS 10.5.1. It may not be optimized for the Intel processors or Leopard, but it does run.
  7. Re: Can tripods be carried on an airplane?

I often carry-on a tripod on both domestic and international flights from the U.S. and I have never had a problem with the TSA.

Re: copal 3 on toyo 45A

I just purchased a 240mm lens on a copal #3 shutter and it appears to be missing the ring that would go between the shutter and the front of the lens board. Does anyone know where I can find this...
  11. Re: Nikon Super CoolScan 9000 work with Intel MacPro?

I use a Nikon 9000 on an Intel Mac Pro running Leopard. The Nikon scan software sometimes crashes, but otherwise it works fine.
  12. Re: C41 and E6 Processing in San Francisco

I use Calypso for E-6. I don't believe they do C41 processing anymore.

Re: Canada post (air) & X-rays (film)

BH Photo claims Kodak lens paper is no longer made. They now sell Tiffen lens paper which looks exactly the same except the package is gray and blue instead of Kodak yellow.
  14. Re: Why Velvia 50 was and is so well liked?

I've never been a fan of Velvia either. It might have been a more useful tool before scanning and the digital workflow, when color control with transparency film was more limited. I find it is much...

Re: Focus problem - nd grad filter?

I mounted the singh-ray filter in a cokin filter holder. I actually had 2 of them, a 2 stop soft transition and a 2 stop hard transition.

Yes - it does look like a rectangular band that is out...

Re: Focus problem - nd grad filter?

The small water drop theory seems to make the most sense. It is definitely on the film - I saw it first on a light table, so I know its not my scanner.

    Thanks everyone.

Re: Focus problem - nd grad filter?

That would make sense, except that I was up high above the water - like 50 feet up - where I took the shot. This was taken from the walkway at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park in Big Sur, CA. I...

Re: Focus problem - nd grad filter?

I don't have a scanner at home that can handle 4x5 film, so I trimmed a section out of one frame and scanned it with my medium format scanner. I scaled it down and sharpened it a bit in Photoshop to...

    Re: Polaroid 54 hints

Thanks for all the information. The camera is a Toyo 45AII and I've been using a 180mm lens. For Polaroids I use a 545 back that I picked up used. It seems to be in decent shape.

    The white...
