Either way, film is film. It's the same stuff on 35mm cuts. Your experience on the 35mm side is exactly the same on LF. The difference is how little it matters on LF.

I had one of these given to me. Great for focusing.

Poll: Re: Poll 2019: Age at last birthday

At 56, I am just starting LF. I got my battered speed graphic last November. A lens too wide and another newer lens (to me) with a bad shutter and a winter not inviting to drag my gear out the door....

Re: Find dev time without enlarger

I was taught that a grey card (properly metered) should always show up as .7 + base fog. I have always used that as a guide.
  6. Re: Do they still make B&W 4x5 transparency/slide film?

It's a little old now. Let me know if you need something clarified. I should probably go through it and update.

  10. Re: Do they still make B&W 4x5 transparency/slide film?

My first thoughts would be not to use a multi layer modern film to begin with. The older formulations are much easier to get great results with. I would suggest trying Foma 100, using no hypo...
  11. Re: Do they still make B&W 4x5 transparency/slide film?

    No. :)

I wrote it down a bunch of years ago. https://www.blindally.com/myfilmstuff/reversal.html
  12. Re: Do they still make B&W 4x5 transparency/slide film?

It's a skill to make good reversals. Some are not up to the challenge and some are victims of gross misinformation. Mine are tac sharp.

  13. Re: 3d printed 4x5 and 5x7 inserts for Paterson daylight tanks.

I have no idea why people keep designing these holders for 3 reel tanks. Whenever I can afford a 3d printer myself, there will be some 2 reel tank options. It's been on my list for a while.

I built a film processor. That was 3 years ago and I am still improving on it. One day, it might get a case.

Re: I need info on Jobo ATLs vs Phototherm SSKs

There are places on the internet that would make one for you if you had a 3d designed first. I've not seen any designs as of yet.

Re: I need info on Jobo ATLs vs Phototherm SSKs

The big thing to consider is what you want the operator to do. Do you want them to babysit the process or walk away?

Your Phototherm and the Jobo ATL machines are ment to be automatic and not too...

You would be far more ahead to look at https://www.pl32.com/ . Priced near elements, but with the full power os PS. I've been using it for years. Mac/PC and 32/64 bit. It takes many PS extensions.

  25. Re: "True film speed" vs just developing the film more?

All developers will exhibit the same properties, but there is a standard developer they use to test for box speed. That said, the toe of a film curve (shadows) becomes non-linear at a certain point...

Re: mixing my own developer supplies

I agree with the scale. But your phenidone won't last very long if it's not in solution. It's then mesured with a syringe......accuretly. What the heck are you mixing to need 50g?
  27. Re: Scanner Comparison 2019 [Epson Flatbed | Eversmart Flatbed | Drum Scanners]

One thing not mentioned here, is a wet scan on the v700. It does make a huge difference...enough that I will use my v700/wet over my dedicated 35mm scanner with 35mm film.

    Although I have no dpi...

  29. Re: Developed 4 sheets of HP5-400 had issues

A divided developer is not a one-shot by nature. Part A (I mix 2 l) survives me almost a year as it gets re-used for all that duration. The B part becomes the one shot. For large format, it becomes...
  30. Re: Developed 4 sheets of HP5-400 had issues

Steve, I started developing film in the 70s. I have yet to meet anyone ever react to Metol. I'm sure it is possible, but I don't think it is common at all. D76 and Dektol are the most common Metol...
  31. Re: Developed 4 sheets of HP5-400 had issues

  32. Re: Developed 4 sheets of HP5-400 had issues

His formula didn't meet my needs and I like Metol.
  33. Re: Developed 4 sheets of HP5-400 had issues

A pinch is an amount you can hold between your thumb and pointer finger. It's a small amount to prevent the metol from oxadizing too quickly and aids in the mixing. Too much ss will actually prevent...

Mix in order. May not be absorbed otherwise.

    70 mil dist water

  35. Re: Developed 4 sheets of HP5-400 had issues

Let me know if you want to try my formula. Water-based and catechol/metol for better shelf life. My formula is based on maximum synergy between the metol/chatechol where pyrocat was tuned to a curve....

My guess it would depend on your film/developer combination. You should also measure your PH of the water. Distilled ideal is 7.0. You would never see that, in the wild. Some developers are buffered...
