Re: What is this differential fading?

Thanks for the replies. Yes, the white paint not fading as much sound plausible. I will tell the owner of this photo that his white paint is "good quality", and he will probably like it better.

    What is this differential fading?

A friend sent me this picture of a family portrait from about 1908. One of those chaps is his grandpa. Given the date, would it have to be a hand colored photo? Anyway, what my friend noticed is...

  11. Re: Deciding on a 4x5 for digital conversion project

Agree with BobS. Digital view cameras with full movements on front and rear can be fairly cheap used (about $3K for a P3, M679, or AS Monolith), but note that it is hard enough using these with MF...

Re: Alternatives to Gitzo Series 5 tripods?

A cube with LF! I use it with MF all the time, but it sure doesn't have the guts for studio view cameras. A 4 x 5 field camera would be fine, but a Sinar or Foba head is a much better match with an...

    Re: Calibrate a transmission densitometer

    I don't know what a "non-standard transmissive densitometer" is.

0 D absolute is air, by definition.

    Re: Calibrate a transmission densitometer

The response of a densitometer is highly dependent upon the optical path. The film itself is part of that path and scattering within the film will materially affect density measurements.

    That...

Bob, tell me more about your local solutions to the processor problem. I have a really ugly 2200 that works but could sure use some TLC. Are you saying you have a tech who can work on these?
