Re: Building my own darkroom for 4x5 negs

I settled on dip and dunk using a combiplan sheet holder and plain old rectangular, 1.5 liter juice jugs easily found at the supermarket. The jugs sit in a water bath for color processing. A...
  2. Re: Is it OK to quickly dip my 4x5 negatives into alcohol to expedite drying?

One perhaps expensive alcohol choice might be kami fluid, which is used for scanning. It doesn't harm the negative, and evaporates completely in seconds. Downside is the expense plus the fact that it...

Re: Stand developing in Jobo 3010

Now I'm confused in two ways. First, why would anyone ever do stand development in a Jobo 3010??? And second, why would anyone develop film with refrigerated water for days in a fridge?

I think until you eliminate the bowing variations caused by the original holder, and can assure that the film is in the plane of sharpest focus for both scans, your scans do not prove or disprove...

Pasiasty, is this mounted on glass (eg, betterscanning holder)? If so, dry or wet mount? (I'm assuming this is an Epson, but please correct if wrong.)

Transparency scaning - why emulsion side up?

In my opinion, this is more likely due to closer proximity to the plane of sharpest focus. I've scanned emulsion up and down and not noticed a difference in image quality.

    But if you are using...

By the way, for dry mounting, Scotch Magic Tape is perfect. Leaves nothing behind on film. For wet mounting, it is horrible.

    Re: flatbed scanning method

    Hi Ben,

You will need to shim the AN glass to the plane of sharpest focus of your scanner. Doing this with shims is fine, but it is more of a pain to do than using the betterscanning holders,...

    Minimum Scanner specs for 4x5

From reading the v330 spec I don't think you will be able to scan 4x5 film. I suspect it only backlights the area for 35mm. So this should not be on your list.

If you are just looking for a...

And you're still stuck with a Bayer filter, unless you do 3 CCDs and a beam splitter, or rip off Sigma's Foveon patent, or commit to a black and white only sensor (not such a bad commitment).

Both. The cost of a CCD chip goes up dramatically as its size increases. This is due to the way chips are made, and a concept called "yield". Basically, chips are made in groups on large "wafers",...
