I use Singh-Ray GSND filters (which are resin) and have nothing but good things to say about them both in terms of optical quality and neutrality. Lee filters are reputed to be excellent also.
I shoot an Arca Swiss...no need for a back up (fingers crossed).
I mount mine in Bair transparency mounts (outer dimension of 4X5) and store them in Print File (4X5 transparency) archival pages. I then hang the pages in a steel filing cabinet.
I bought an 80 XL about 4 years ago, don't know if it's considered an early production one or not, but I can tell you that it is nearly impossible to focus this lens anywhere in the field of view...
At 3+ dollars per gallon I'll be laying low the rest of the year.
Personally, I wouldn't send unsolicited submissions of any kind. First of all, there's no obligation on the part of the editor to return them to you. Secondly, there's a good chance you could send...
I use an A-S reflex viewer on a 69 FC. Being able to view a bright image on the GG magnified 4X is a big help in composition but I still use a loupe and dark cloth for critical focussing.
I use an Epson 4870 (non-Pro version) and it came with a 6X7 holder. I can't imagine the Pro version wouldn't have one as well. Did you get it new??
I've been very happy with my Schneider 4X.
1. The exposure time is doubled with each one stop reduction of aperture size and halved with each one stop increase in aperture size. In other words, if you get a reading of 1/30 sec. at f11...
The 1325 should be fine. I used it with a Wista SP...rock solid.
Look into getting an Inland Marine Policy with State Farm. It's reasonably priced and will cover professionally used equipment when traveling...at least mine did.
My only experience with push/pull has to do with Velvia 50. I've found it can be pushed up to one stop and you'll see primarily an increase in contrast. I haven't liked what I've gotten from...
Percy, I have an Arca 69 which I find very easy to focus. I use a Schneider 4X loupe under a dark cloth. I also have a binocular viewer which magnifies the image 2X but I use it primarily for...
I shot 4X5 for years and finally became tired of having to deal with sheet film, sheet film holders, dust, the high cost of processing the film, etc. etc. I switched to an Arca 69 FC and don't...
one lens: 110 XL
two lenses: 110 & 210
three lenses: 80, 110, 210
four lenses: 80, 110, 150, 210
five: 80, 110, 150, 210, 360
I have done alot of shooting with the P67 and with LF using Horseman 67 roll film backs. When comparing identical subject matter using the Pentax lenses and a variety of LF lenses including the...
Arca Swiss 69 FC. Great for wide angle to medium telephoto, impeccable build quality, kinda pricey but you get what you pay for.
Take a look at the Arca-Swiss 69. Even though the widest lens I use on mine is a 65, a 55 would be just fine with this camera giving you some movements to aid in perspective control. You might want...
If I'm out shooting wildflowers it is a guarantee that the wind will make an appearance as soon as I reach my destination. If it isn't that then it's contrails that test my patience.
I can't speak for the F-line as I use an A-S 69 FC however, I can speak for the Horseman roll film backs and have nothing but good things to say about the ones I have owned. I have used both 6X9 and...
Dan,
Depending on the proximity of the foreground I will generally use between F22 and 32, rarely anything wider unless everything in the scene is at infinity. I haven't noticed any diffraction...
"it's your art, and nobody else's opinion makes any difference".
It does if you're trying to sell your work.
Adams used the only form of "Photoshop" available to him at the time in the form of...
In reading the info on the Microtek i900 it states that the scanner comes with Digital Ice Photo Print technology. Am I correct in assuming that this digital ice is meant only for prints and not for...
1. Bubble levels: I used to shoot a Wista SP (on a B1 and G1325) and would attach a bubble level in the hot shoe on the top of the camera. You can get levels that work in two directions, left to...
Not that this will help your specific problem but I have an Arca-Swiss binocular viewer that I use on my A-S 69 and the image is very bright with a 65mm lens. Can you rent or borrow a binocular...
Guy,
I've been using Horseman roll film backs (6X9 and 6X7) for years initially on a Wista SP and more recently on an Arca 69 and have never had any type of problem with them. Film flatness had...
Just turned the big five-oh(no). I returned today from a shoot out on the Olympic Peninsula of my home state, Washington, and after lugging around a pack of camera gear for a couple of days I'm ...
I carry my old OM-1 which I use as my LF meter. I've never felt real comfortable using a spotmeter although the added weight and bulk using a 35mm camera strictly as a meter makes me wish I did.
I have the A-S binocular reflex viewer for the 6X9 and it magnifies the image 2X. If you have the Arca viewer I'm not sure why yours doesn't magnify.
In tend to use the viewer primarily for...
I've only had mine for a couple of weeks with limited opportunity to use it but my initial experience is this: very sharp at 16-32, somewhat soft wide open which makes critical focusing a...
I have just switched from a folding metal field camera to a monorail (Arca FC co mpact 6X9) and am wondering what those of you who do field work with monorails d o to protect the groundglass and...
SS 110 XL---no contest.
Paul and Steve, The A-S Field is available only in the U.S., so I've been told.
I use the LowePro Pro Trekker and would highly recommend it. It's harness system is second to none, in my experience, and there's plenty of room for your gear.
For a given focal length (wide angle) lens, is the amount of light fall off the same regardless of manufacturer? In other words, is fall off strictly a functio n of focal length?
As a spin-off of Ed's question who is the official U.S. distributor of Arca products? In other words who in the U.S. offers a USA warranty on Arca? And if you do buy gray market Arca and need it ...
Thanks Glenn and Jeff. It was my understanding that the Field did not come in a metric version...Jack must have special ordered a metric front standard to go along with the micrometric orbix.
