Hello,
I have a Protar V11- 13 3/4" in Koilos shutter. I have noticed that the front and rear element numbers do not match. I guess that the obvious would be that something got changed out at...
Hi All,
I am in the process of replacing the bellows on my 7x17 Folmer Schwing. I am finding that many of the screws that hold the frame have rusted heads and am unable to remove them with a...
Hi All,
Is there a large difference in mount size between Copal 3 and Copal 3s shutters? I have an older G-Claron 355 f9. I have had 2 Copal 3 shutters and both were much too large to mount the...
Hi All,
I have a Folmer Schwing 7x17 camera and several 7x17 film holders(an original FS 7x17 holder and a couple of different Korona type holders). Question: the Korona holders are different in...
That is all good information. I have an older version of Silverfast but also use VueScan for most of my work. Just contemplating returning to the dark room or continue on the Epson print solutions. I...
Hi All,
Anyone had experience with scanning 5x7 and 8x10 negatives? Would say an Epson Perfection V800 be up to the task? Is there a big difference between V800 and V850?
Thanks, Steve
Thinking 5x7 reducing back on my 8x10
I had hoped on using it for portraiture on a 45/5x7 Dorff , I am quite sure that it would fit my 8x10...if it will cover. According to the specs. I am reading it is a little bit more than 5x7. Rugged...
Hi All,
30 cm 4.5 Heliar coverage? Will not cover 8x10? Seems as though it would be a rather large lens on 4x5/5x7?

On counting reflections.. never knowingly done this. How, what do I look for?
Could this be a Dagor type lens? What would that mean?
What would be the best material to make new end flap hinges? Some sort of tape? Testing for light leaks, was thinking of loading photo paper then taking out into the light then develop. Thinking...
Thanks for that info, I will keep an eye open. Probably tough to find without a lens though....?
Steve
Looks like it could have been taken in New England.
OKAROB Thanks, that explains a lot. I have had this lens for some time now but have been baffled as to fitting it into a shutter. Lens is in very good shape with exception of a little bit of...
This is the lens in question:. Measured front element again 55.55 mm. will not fit Copal 1
Measurement across the mounting threads 39.6875mm. ser starts w 11401... I sold the Copal 3 as by time I had it mounted would cost me more than just finding a good ready to go lens.

I guess there are apparently more than 1 thread pattern for Copal 3. I had a Copal 3 shutter and attempted to mount my 355 G Claron barrel lens but the mount opening was much too large for this lens....
Thanks, I am guessing that the file size from an 8x10 negative must be quite large? Does the output from say an Epson printer still have that large/contact print feel to it? I have thinking of moving...
Hello,
I am looking for a solution in working with my 8x10 negatives. Will the Epson V850 give me a good result retaining good resolution etc?
Thanks, Steve
Hi John,
No worries, you have pointed me in the right direction. I will get it figured out.
I will keep you posted.
Thanks, Steve
Hi John,
Just received the DeGroff, the threads seem to be too small to screw into the Verido's Studio Shutter. Am I missing something, is this common?
Steve
Hi John,
Thanks for tips, I should have it tomorrow. Will keep you posted.
Steve
A 3S? is that a different type of Copal 3? Someone had told me that Nikon Copal 3 might be different. Thinking the one I had may have been Rodenstock.
Hi All,
I have a 355 G Claron in barrel. I have been trying to figure out what shutter might directly fit this lens. I had a Copal 3 but the threaded area of the lens was smaller that the opening...
Thanks on those responses, it was kind of what I had figured would be the answer to that issue. I have a couple of G Clarons that have nice glass but display the white specs in the black painted...
What is all this Schneideritis stuff? I remember seeing fog in old Schneider lenses..are they talking about the white dots in the black painted area of the lens mount? That would be outside of the...
Thanks John,
Think I may have one, silver tube engraved on the side?

I had ordered a release for just that reason, throw looks to be 5/8 inch. As long a release as I could find..
I have a nice 14.5 Verito with Studio Shutter. Question: When I open the iris to f4 with the preview lever the lens goes to wide open. If I open the iris with a a cable release it opens to a much...
Has anyone had challenges with ULF cameras moving while inserting film holders resulting in loss of focus?
Any good work around or best practice.

Richard,
Thanks, this information clears things up a bit.
Please check your gmail for a message.

Hello All,
I have a vintage film holder in which the hinges have pretty much dried out and rotted away. What material would I use to fabricate new hinges?
Thanks, Steve
Hello All,
Is there a standard size on all 7x17 Folmer Schwing film holders or might they vary in size? The holder that came with my camera measures: 19 3/32 from flap end to outside edge...
Arthur Wesley Dow was an Ipswich guy, there is a large collection of his Cyanotypes at the museum here in town.
Looking forward to Clarence White, ordered the book on Amazon.
When is it due in Maine? Portland Museum of Art?
I saw Clarence White School of Photography exhibit at Addison Gallery of American Art in North Andover MA a few years back. I was working in non silver processes at the time. I walked into this...
Are these all guesstimated exposures or are folks taking some sort of readings and calculating reciprocity etc.?
Steve
Very very nice examples, the true craft of photography.
I am setting up a 7x17 and have a 355 G Claron in Barrel that I plan to use with it. My guess is that shutter wont be of much help as to long...
