I'm trying to decide what to do with it. I'm thinking enlarger? Bigger...
Found another negative I had forgotten about. This one is from about six months ago. Different batch of PMK, way different batch of film. Interesting that it is running exactly 90-degrees opposite...
Hmmm., I hadn't thought of the static before. I do live in Utah where the humidity is LOOOOWWWWW, but the ironic thing is that nothing in my developing process has changed at all. I pre-soak the...
This is an anomaly that I'm trying to track down. Film is HP5+, 4x10, processed in PMK. This is the second type of mark like this I have had on my film recently. I mark my holders and thought it...
I have shot in the automotive industry for over 15 years and I have done many shots that are SIMILAR to the one shown in the OP. I think that the engine photograph was shot with light that was...
I'm using F-24 fixer b/c of the recommendation from the cookbook. Other than the recommendation, I'm not sure I see any tangible benefits. It just makes me feel good.
Don, I received your book today. It's wonderful. I would love to have it signed. Also was very curious if my camera took any of the images in it. :)
Yay for 8x10!
I'm glad you're using the 'Dorff for Collodion. Personally I think the Canham is too nice to get goop all over it. I have my Century 7 8x10 for doing wet-plate at a future time...
Struan, thank you for your well composed answer. You, and many others are bringing more to this thread than I had originally thought would happen. It has taken on a life of it's own. I am including...
Don, we LOVED, LOVED, LOVED looking at your work! We just sat and stared for the longest time at the image of the KKK cross burning. It is such a beautifully-horrific image. I would have one hanging...
Just purchased a 90 6.8 today in anticipation of getting one of these bodies. I missed the Kickstarter offer (duh), but will be one of the first in line. I like how they want this to be a hackable...
Yes! Keep them coming. This is an amazing collection of photographers.
Jason and Micheal, thank you! Jason...this Disfarmer guy...he's quite a character! I wish the site I found of his prints had a little larger image size...oh well, beggars can't be choosers. I like...
Eudora Welty
Awesome, thanks cowanw! Thanks NER!
I am not trying to create a list of great photographers, which all of those women certainly are. I'm looking for photographers that created bodies of work about specific groups of people. I'm not...
You teach your class, I'll teach mine.
Who shot the portraits of the Hispanic neighborhood around Dodger's Stadium in Los Angeles in the '50's? Medium format...B&W... Dang, can't remember.
EDIT: Don Normark

Kirk, thanks!
Hey gang,
I'm preparing a lecture for my documentary photography class about portraiture of specific people. I am asking them to narrow down their portraiture a bit and find a narrow group of...
This is why I am removing all of my content off of the internet. It's only going to get worse.
Go see 'em if you can. You won't be disappointed.
Planning to shoot some baseball with a 5x7 Big Bertha sometime this year here in Utah. It is one of the cameras that photographed the World Series in the early '50's. It's an AMAZING camera.
I use a JOBO, but you could do tray since you already know how. Tubes are great, but JOBO is best. JOBO with Unicolor base is second best.
Funny...and I can't wait to get my hands on my next 11x14 camera. Paper negatives are another option that are wonderful to play with.
The pink color is from improper fixing. Fix these prints for at least twice as long as you'd fix regular FB paper. If it's still pink, it ain't fixed long enough.
All of the Elwood's I've ever seen are gunmetal grey. Paint it grey and use it.
I took the SINAR front standard and looked at my options with it. Unfortunately the bellows for the Canham camera do not share any dimensions with the SINAR system...so, my front standard and bellows...
Here's a shot of the box stripped of all parts and just kind of seeing how far back I need to place the shutter. This particular lens sticks out the furthest, so it's the one I'm basically making my...
The Canham is quite remarkable in that it is nearly as modular as the SINAR system. The bellows are easily detached from the front standard with one simple sliding tab. It would be no trouble to...
I've been thinking about the weight issues involved with adding yet another large piece of equipment in front of the front standard on my Canham 8x10. I am strongly tempted to work out a solution...
Good to know Jim. Thank you.
Sweet, thanks for that Jason. I will probably do mine a little differently, but this gives me a great place to start. Can you address possibly in the future how the shutter speeds are? Are they...
I use dental x-ray clips. Very strong, very sharp gripping point, very minimal invasion on the image area.
Sweet. My setup will be a little more compact, but the idea is the same. Thanks for the pics. I'd love some detail shots. The link to the other thread is also helpful. :)
Well a 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 Speed Graphic showed up yesterday. I sought out a non-perfect example and got this one for 99 bucks. The only thing that is remotely interesting about it is that it is engraved...
I have a Century 7 on a Majestic head. No problems.
Yes, tell us more about the 8x10 version.
A student of mine just bought a baby Speed Graphic ( 2 1/4 x 3 1/4) and I'm thinking of getting one myself. Chopping it up and making it a front mounted shutter don't bother me much...just looking...
I guess I am using a different app called 'Reciprocity'. Let me download yours and check it out. Thanks!
EDIT: Oh yes, your app is much better. Well worth the price. Thanks!
Tried to use it yesterday. I was disappointed that the apertures stopped below what I wanted to use. I was wanting to use f/128 but when I realized I couldn't, I just opened up the calculator and...
