Kirk,
My gut reaction is that same as yours about black and white. But then there is Jay Maisel, who really makes color work:

Jay reminds me that color can be as...
I have also done some real world testing. If you have important fine (high frequency) detail, you can get visible effects at 4x enlargement. Assuming you have a reason to stop down a lot, the benefit...
Is this for the 8x10? If so, what 8x10 is it?
If you have a smart phone, there are cheap/free apps that do the calculation. I use them in the field when I am not using a Sinar. (Sinar's have a built in DOF calculator.)
I use Qimage rather than doing output sharpening. I sharpen the Image so it is correct at 100%, then Qimage optimizes it for the print size. It also manages the printer. A remarkable program, and...
Having chased a few big thunderstorms, you really risk getting drenched or worse. The adverse conditions probably wash out any benefits of lf. At least get a Walker camera and a lens you are not...
I do not have a personal tie to the Biloxi cemetery, but I am in Biloxi occasionally and always try to go by and shoot. I am generally interested in the national cemeteries. I find them moving, but...

You need to decide if you want the pleasure of messing with gear - wood tripods - or the fastest, lightest, most rigid support - cf. Nothing against the pleasure of a fine wood tripod, but I like...
If you care about weight, get a Gitzo cf without a column. Put an Arcatech leveling head on it, and put the camera on that. If you want to tilt the camera - say, to shoot a cathedral ceiling - add an...
I have crossed at other locations and used my passport. I do not think Louisiana offers enhanced drivers licenses. Can you sign those with an X?:)
The last threads on Niagara Falls are old, so I am starting a new one. We are headed to that area in June. The last thread recommended staying on the Canadian side. Is that still good advice? Is it a...
Thanks Ari! The need for a physical center filter depends on the subject. I found that if I have shadows toward the edges, I lose detail that cannot be recovered with software. If the scene is...
That is an interesting thought. I seem to remember that if you use gelatin, you don't get focus shift. Or just focus with the filter on.
There really are no cheaper alternatives for the 95mm center filters. If you shoot negative film, you can push up the exposure and then even things out in Photoshop or with with masks in the...
Thanks Bob. A sad day.
I have gotten some good pictures of my fingers trying to hold filters in front of ultrawide lenses.
Lachlan,
Thanks! Schneider's info page says it is a 1.5 pitch:

Does that match up with your memory? Cokin...
The center filter for a 72mm XL has a 112 thread on the front. Has anyone tried the Cokin X-Pro system with this lens? Other suggestions for filters on this system?
TMY-2 is also hard to clear. I increased my fix time to 14 minutes and that cleared up the pink.
You can usually buy a rear standard for less than a repair. Try ebay or post a WTB here.
If you are good with mechanics and small screws, you can take it apart and maybe fix it. I have done that,...
They all fit.
I have used Xtol for years. I store it in a tank with a floating lid:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/88372-REG/Doran_Plastic_Storage_Tank_2.html
It is relatively cheap and really helps....
Just watched the video on using the cascade film holder. First, it made the realize how liberating a film to scan workflow is - no worrying about holders in baggies inside of zipper pouches. If I get...
I have been dealing with Archival Methods since LI fell apart three ago. They have everything I need and are great to deal with.
Wow! Anyone know the price?
I work out of Kinesis belt pouches and pack. kgear.com The ground here is either swampy, dusty, or covered with ants and thorny plants. Camera is on the tripod, over my shoulder.
Another nice feature of Vuescan: the program holds the raw scan data in memory after the scan. You can change the settings and just resave the image. Sometimes I save more than one version and see...
Jac - it is prettier at your end.:-) At this end, it is all behind levees. It gets pretty again north of here.
"Professional" - With the FA, the bellows never gets in the way and blocks the ground...
> Nice! I would like to buy Ebony LF.
The Ebony is really nice for a compact camera. But a $300 Sinar F2 is a better camera for shooting.

Ebony 45SU with the bag bellows. Take Bruce Barham's advice and give the shadows an extra stop of exposure and you will love it in lf as well.
> That's fabulous, Ed. I assume you used some front swing?
Not really. Just a small f-stop and a wide lens. Swing made the keyboard go out of focus.
I did use some swing on this one:

Might be where you live. Here in the tropics, light cotton gloves keep oily finger prints at bay when loading film. But then you folks who put your hands in chemicals probably don't have sweat glands...
There are not many people where I was, much less LF folks. But it is a typical Gulf Coast thunderstorm front.
