    Re: Hp5 vs TMY400

I like HP5 myself. Having never been a fan of Tmax films, my experience with TMY is limited to a single box I shot, so I can't profess to having learned its ins and outs as well as HP5. I had trouble...

    Re: 210mm for 8x10"

The Fujinon that Dentkimterry mentions give moderate room for movements. I own one and like it very much. Another lens that comes up at an affordable price from time to time is the 8 3/4" Dagor. Wide...

Lovely image. I would like that on my wall.

You made the right decision about the ice. I'm still recovering from a fall I took in December of 2016, when I broke my neck. Arms are still not back...

    Re: Fujinon 125/5.6 versions?

I have the Version 2 125mm and I love it. It covers 5x7 (albeit with little wiggle room for movements) and is very sharp and contrasty. I would think that any one of them would be as good. But...

Re: What did you compose at Waters Edge?

I was having that same issue with my Eastman 2D. I discovered that I wasn't getting the film holder properly seated in the back before pulling the dark slide.

Thanks, folks. I'll see if there is a provision in my software for a portable version of the website. The link colors are definitely something I can work with.

Re: 150mm vs 135mm Images for comparison

I'm not sure what seeing images from both focal lengths would accomplish, unless they were of the same subject. How many people ever shot the same scene using two lenses of such similar FL? I know I...
  12. Re: Circle of coverage for Ilex Paragon Anastigmat 12"/305mm f4.5 ?

I used to have one of these, and my example just barely covered 8x10 with any degree of sharpness. The circle of illumination was fairly wide and lit up an image closer to 10x12, but the corners were...

    Re: Flowers Anyone?

Dug up an old 8x10 negative I shot when my daughter was but a tot. She's 30 now.
  14. Re: anyone know what kind of bulbs these are?

I used to have an old slide projector that used a bulb that looked exactly like that. Don't remember make and model, though.
  15. Re: Lens flare in a Velostigmat W.A. Is that normal?

Check and see if the internal elements have accumulated some haze. I had that same thing on mine. Kind of wish I hadn't cleaned it!

  19. Re: How to handle "Free on Loan" threads, etc.

Personally, I found comments useful, except of course, the blatantly rude ones. When I, or someone offering something I want, is out of line on price, that's good to know. If somebody posts a 10"...
  20. Re: Fresnel lenses and ground glass focusing screens your worries answered

I was pondering the same thing. The first time I replaced a ground glass/fresnel combo, I got the two bass-ackwards and had to get several out of focus 8x10 negatives before I figured out my...

Re: What did you compose at Waters Edge?

A scan from while I was still in Vermont. This old abandoned quarry sits near lake Champlain about 25 miles north of Burlington. Shot it with my Canham 5x7, using a 210mm Fujinon and HP4 film.

Re: Will this lens cover 5x7?

I used to own a 165mm Caltar. I don't know what possessed me to sell it, and I haven't found one since. But if you find one, it's an excellent lens.

    Re: From 127mm to 90mm

I found it to be necessary. I got just a tip of the bed in the first shot I took with a 90mm 6.8 Angulon. Not much, but enough to need cropping.

  32. Re: Toyo 810M vs. Canham 8x10 Metal Field a Camera?

I only a Canham 5X7, and a Toyo 8X10M. I like both cameras, but in terms of stability, the Canham doesn't hold a candle to the Toyo. the 8X10 and the 5X7 Canham models are identical in design. They...
  33. Re: anyone hear of using alcohol instead of photoflow as a drying agent

Back in the days of Prohibition, photographers were allowed to buy grain alcohol for drying negatives. Which, according to Edward Weston, was why photographers had the best parties.
