I don't know the answer. But I tried to experiment with compendium hoods which I found aesthetically pleasing. In the end, a baseball hat wins.

The 3000 series drums work very well on a roller base. Great if you can find them. Be gentle with the lids. A manual roller base would be just that - manual labor and horrible after a short time.
Tripod looks great... but the Wehman I miss.
I used to have a 4x5 F-Metric. The camera itself is art. Almost too precious to use! Good luck in your search.
It is a beautiful book. Well done!
Most any 4x5 will work. However, generally speaking the longer the bellows the more they will be compressed with the 90. If the bellows are compressed, movements are very stiff and it can be harder...
Honestly too much trouble for prints. Better to use single tray processing with some beakers/pitchers of chemistry. Cheaper and easier. If you must use a drum, you could try a DIY PVC drum but heavy...
Get the motorized base if you use a 3005. The CPP/CPA processors are huge and really unnecessary for B&W sheet film. Just do some testing to calibrate your development times using the motorized base...
Well done! A criticism which might be unavoidable is placing the enlarger next to a wall. Two problems: reflected light (fog) off the wall; and difficulty using dodging and burning tools on the left...
just stick with hypam. the cost difference is not worth the effort.
The problem with most light sources, even enlargers, is the the light is far too bright for VC paper, especially if you want to dodge/burn anything. Not the easiest thing to do with 5x7 but much...
You might try some 10X reading glasses in place of (or in addition to) a loupe. I tried a number of focusing cloths. In the end, simple and light is best.
I really hate ballheads for large format first of all. The ballhead is integrated on the PD travel tripod. You can get an optional kit to use your own head which I suspect would be heavier and make...
SK Grimes could make them from aluminum.
Didn't people try something like this but much simpler, using rubber bands around the sheet to curl it and then filling the drum with "tubes" of film. A large drum might need some sort of spacer -...
His products were excellent. Sad though that they are no longer available.
Just asking: have you tried the 210mm Rodagon?
+1 for Frame Destinations. Very good experience with them many times and good customer service.
I used a 210 Sironar-W, 300 Nikon M, 450 mm Fujinon C, and 600 mm Fujinon C. I paid the piper.
Going wider than 210 you have limited options. There is an old Schnieder SA 165 that covered 8x10 -...
Go to a UPS store, have them box the tripod, ship it with a roll of packing tape inside, and save the box for re-shipping home.
This forum is a great resource available nowhere else. you should reconsider.
You have some wiggle room due to the bellows on the Beseler enlarger. You could try to guesstimate from photos of the converter unit. The bigger problem, and the most tedious part of installing the...
Haven't read all the above posts, but:
yes, it matters. I went through multiple 8x10 cameras including the old style Arca Swiss, Toyo M field camera, Cambo view camera, and finally a Wehman 8x10....
I don't even know what thread you are talking about. There is too much deleted nowadays do to exquisite sensitivities. This is a private side and the moderators are free to do as they wish. But the...
As stated, just do it the same way for each step in a reproducible manner. I like to do it right at the beginning because it was easy.
I would be cautious about adding an electrical device to the problem chain (steamer). Maybe just a pan of distilled water in the bottom of a drying cabinet. I used an Arkay film drying cabinet with a...
I found a polarizer better in theory than in practice. Difficult to get skies even. Maybe for reflection on water or green plants but not that helpful for landscapes. I would pass on a polarizer if...
Of course, it is a fair amount of work to cram the 50 sheets into 10 sheet boxes. For smaller volumes, 2 fold packs of 10 sheets will fit in a 10 sheet box so the average shooter could cut the bulk...
FYI, the Apo Sironar W 210 is an outstanding lens for 8x10 with plenty of room for movements.
Not sure what 8x10 camera you are using, but make sure you have sufficient bellows draw if you pick up...
You might try using more dilute developer and longer development times plus a pre-rinse with water. Make sure you are using sufficient volume and that the drum is level.
I used Xtol 1:1, acid...
I found the basic screw mount was easier that the Arca plate for 8x10.
The automatically reversing motor bases are not the best for large drums because they might not rotate around the full circumference before changing directions. The Beseler bases have a switch for...
I had a conversion and sold it to someone on the forum. The conversion kit was designed to work with either the MXT or VXL and came with hardware for each. I had both the VXL and the MXT. I think the...
Not necessarily for LF gear (although 4x5 should work), GuraGear is hard to beat. You can find their backpacks at deep discounts briefly because GuraGear just became Tamrac and they are coming out...
Hey, the Canham is a nice camera.
the Jogging stroller is the best, off the shelf, cost-effective alternative.
PVC is very heavy. It might be lighter to buy an ultralight camping table rather...
What about the Layton?

Ari,
I had an older Arca Swiss 8x10, the silver ones, something like the Arca "C". It was OK, but heavy and no comparison to the newer F-Line series (which I had in 4x5).
A basic Arca Swiss...
One shot. The idea is consistency generally using relatively dilute, one shot developers. Developer is relatively inexpensive anyway so I see little economy in re-using it. With BTZS tubes, you are...
I used to use that meter. My method was to use it in EV mode and take readings from shadows and highlights to determine exposure range. For example, shaw reading of 4 and highlight reading of 12 is...
