I think a lot of lenses could mimic this wide open. I shot this with the Mamiya C330 80mm wide open. Not the same but similar, I think.

xtol/water/TF-4 is fairly benign chemical wise. I develop in the kitchen, don't feel too guilty about having that stuff around my roommates.
TF-4 smells like pee sometimes but it goes away...
Make sure that your subjects head doesn't have junk behind it.
yep. shoot 4x5. maybe 5x7. make your mistakes. Unless you have some very, very patient teacher and/or a lot of money.
The point of 11x14 is bigger contact prints. (at least to me). End of...
Hey All,
I burned through a lot of ink of a couple of colors trying to clear some ink clots a while back, and I'm down to almost zero on 3 inks. I've been pondering buying Cone inks as a...
When I made this box I thought it would set the world on fire but no one seemed very excited. I still use it now, 3 years later. I've never had a darkroom. Works great. I'd go with a bigger box...
Kresfnuch!
I like whoever said "photography is 95% furniture moving". A teacher told me that. It's been very helpful.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a cheap version of this for Linhof boards:

Seems like something could be re-purposed. Any ideas?
Thanks
Paul
Preston, how much is "not too costly"?
ok I think I need the flange in front of the board to clear the camera. I'll try Grimes. Annoyingly, the outer rim of the flange is bigger than the hole of the lensboard...
Thanks everyone. I hate to say it but I think Ari's suggestion might be the winner...
I have a Copal 3 shutter with a very wide retaining ring. The ring blocks it from fitting in my linhof copy lens board. I'd like to get the ring turned down. I'd like to not pay an arm and a leg...
I never could get consistent, flaw free results from print drums (I used Bessler, Unicolor and Chromega). I finally bought a jobo. I still do 2 5x7s in an 8x10 drum but even that is kind of dicey....
I'm sure it's probably a toss up. Epson's are real good. If I was to buy again, I'd be more interested in reliability, ink prices, etc. If you know what you are doing I'm sure you'd be able to...
You have to post the resultant pictures, no?
I bought a JOBO 3010. You can do 10 4x5s (that's what it's made for) but I've also done 5 5x7s, without difficulty.
I've used various print 11x14 print drums but I've never been able to get one...
I don't know anything about that printer. I did have an HP B9180, which was supposed to be awesome. Initially it was, but it turned into a total POS...I ended up getting 6 of them from HP, all DOA....
It would be easy enough to adapt a modern 4x5 back to the camera without modifying the actual camera. That said after working on an older half plate camera for a while and finally giving up, you...
Sorry, $515 was my pounds to dollars conversion....
$500 new for a 3010? Just crazy.
I hate to say it, but in China I think they could make one for $5.
Have they been making expert drums all along? I didn't realize you could buy new ones.

It seems odd to me that they aren't making new drums. With the price of the professional drums through the roof, it seems like they'd want to make more. What are people who buy the processors going...
I would look for a used Epson 4870 and order a better-scanning large format holder. A 4990 would work too. These are rumored to have quality somewhat close to the more modern Epsons. Not sure...
two catch lights isn't "amateurish". It's pretty much expected.
This is actually pretty good:

Yeah it's annoying. I've thought about putting it in a tube of some sort to get it to the right distance and then taping it but currently I'm still floating it in the air.
Yeah most loops are made to focus on the plane of the end of the barrel of the loupe.
Annoyingly, for a loupe to focus on the surface of the ground glass, it would need to be shorter. So...unless...
push pins are really not that bad.
I've never tried this, but I think you can use a microwave as a steamer. I saw a video of someone doing that on youtube the other day. If you steamed it, and then clamped it to a flat board...
I'd go Chamonix. Very happy with mine. I'm sure you'll be good with either one.
A monorail like a Toyo is going to be much cheaper and in a lot of ways easier to use. But it's a bear to carry...
I'm printing a new portfolio. I even have a new box. It's 17x22. I have the printer set for roll paper (Canson infinity Baryta) in Lightroom at 17x22. The prints are coming out 17x22 7/8ish.

That sucks. For the record pretty much only good experiences here. One camera whose problems were a bit more involved than I realized but otherwise only good experiences.
I bought these:

150mm or 135mm I think would do you well. Basically any modern lens in good condition is going to be absolutely fine.
Chamonix 45 n-2 is a great camera. Some wood but a lot of metal. Regardless, it's awesome.
Oops. A bit out of your price range but something to keep in mind.
The thing about LF cameras is...
Don't our eyes do the same thing?
So I switched to Gamma 2.2. That seems to have solved the problem.
One thing I'm confused about. My monitor and my prints seem to match very well, but as far as I can tell, my NVIDIA video card...
I have another project I can show, it's a mix of LF and 120mm. I assume the 120mm is not cool to show here, yeah?
