I came across 2 25 sheet boxes of 11x14 Maco 820c Aura IR film today in my bedroom closet. I would like to find out a couple of things. First, is anyone on this forum shooting 11x14 and second, if...
I'm glad I came across this thread! I am surprised at the Fuji 300 C price! I was looking into selling mine and the prices I was given by some of the places that buy used gear aren't worth it! Maybe...
The possibility does exist, yes. If you are careful, it isn't a problem.
I am curious. What workshop is Monty giving?
Wow! I'm happy to hear that you got some/all? of your gear back.
I have done both. It depends on what else I might need my hand for (holding an umbrella to block the wind comes to mind). I have also used the lens shade to keep snow off of my lens while shooting.
I bought a WP camera a while back and it came with 5 holders. I was able to get Keith Canham to make me an adapter for my 8x10 so I can use longer lenses that won't work with the actual WP camera...
Great to see you did that, Jim! That is really cool!
Although I haven't moved exclusively to digital, I came to a similar realization with regards to photo gear. All the cameras and lenses and accessories are tools I use to realize my vision. I think...
I sent an old Crown Anastigmat Series I lens in a compound shutter to Grimes in 2007 (can't believe it has been that long!) which only needed a piston to make it functional again and they were able...
Based on the restrictions applied by the OP, then I'd have to decide between a 450 mm Nikkor-M and a 240 mm Docter and I wouldn't want to, since both are really great lenses. Based on price, I...
I am able (most of the time) to tune out other people when I am photographing. The people in my photo club understand that when I bring out the LF gear, I will be in whatever location I am in for a...
What does this missing part look like?
I have used the lens with whole plate, 6½ x 8½ with no problems. As for use in the landscape, look for things that reflect light, or specular highlights. This is something I learned at Tillman...
The problem is that he can see your camera around the corner.
Why not include the 150 mm Schneider SS-XL?
A few quick thoughts on the subject.
I could set up in the same place. I would choose the 5x12 format for this (I don't have a 4x5 anymore). I would definitely use a longer focal length lens to...
I have done LF for work trips and on vacation, but it is only me that is going on vacation. I have taken my whole plate camera, three small lenses, three holders, box of film and empty box of film...
I frequently use either a 600 mm Fuji or the 646 mm option for my Cooke XVa.
Welcome to the LF forum C.H.!
Diane
Eddie,
That first image looks like a diorama, though I know it isn't one. Well done.
Diane
Well Jim, I went to Tillman Crane's North Dakota workshop which I believe was the week after this one. I'm sure that you all had a great time.
Diane
I'm not sure when I was introduced to whole plate, but the camera I bought from someone on this forum. Sorry Jim, the WP camera I bought from you wasn't the first whole plate I bought. I am...
You are aware that there are women who visit this site?

Hi James, welcome to the Large format forum!
Diane
There is also an f9.5 variation of the 6 1/4" Wollensak that Kerry sold. It does get soft in the corners, if I recall correctly, but it is one of the first lenses I bought when I first started in...
Thanks, Thom!
Drew, the only reason I wanted a recent pic of me because I have lost weight since both the 2007 and 2010 pictures were taken , though it is hard to tell with all the winter...
Well, I can't seem to find a current photo of me with a camera. So, the one in the snow is from 2007 (photo by Chris Davinroy) with my Japanese whole plate and the other one is from the North Dakota...
I noticed that. :D However, I need a current photo of me using an LF camera. I've lost weight since the ones that used to be posted were out there. My old website went away and those went...
I looked at these images last week and always enjoy looking at your lens comparisons. One thing that does bother me is that it would be easier for me to see the differences between the lenses if I...
It depends. Generally, I will wait. I was out once shooting with my 5x12 and a 600 mm lens facing south when all of a sudden, a gust of wind and a sudden hard shower. I didn't have time to break...
Hugo,
I have also seen this phenomenon with Jobo tanks. I only fill 3 of the 5 slots in my 3005 tank and 3 of 4 in my Jobo 3004 tanks and have not had any issues as long as I pour the developer in...
John Adler is still there. I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago and ordered a soft focus set and a resin Orange 21 filter from him over the phone. He has also helped me get some of the harder to...
As you use Pyrocat HD, the mixture does turn to a dark color as it begins to oxidize. I use mine in a Jobo Expert tank when developing, so I don't know how fast it changes color.
Edit: I should...
I have enjoyed all of Jim's little experiments as shown and described on his website. :D
Welcome Roger! I am not a pilot, but I do shoot 8x10, 5x12 (inches) and whole plate (6½ x 8½ inches). I do mostly pt/pd printing as I have no darkroom. I have an 8x10 enlarger out in the shed that...
I also have one of the Photobackpacker packs. I use it for my Canham 8x10 mainly. I have also used it for my whole plate cameras. I got the external pockets for 35 mm lenses which I used during a...
I have only used Pyrocat-HD with 8x10 Acros in a Jobo Expert tank on a Unicolor motor. I have developed for anywhere from 9-11 minutes, but I am printing for platinum/palladium printing, so I am...
I am wondering what the size on the 8x10 pocket will be. I have a Gnass holder currently and sometimes, when I am removing the film holder, the corner sometimes gets caught. This is more of an...
