A great lens with modern optical design and advanced coating, it is one of my favorite lense in large format. Super sharp, resisting flare well, and reproducing great colors. The common 52mm filter...
045n-1 doesn't have rear shift either. Only rear swing and tilt.
135mm should give you some space for movement. Nikkor-W 135/5.6 has about 24mm of maximum rise in horizontal format, at f/22.
For 90mm or 75mm, you can always get a Shen-Hao wide angle bellow for...
At 1.4kg, a Toho FC-45X isn't really much lighter, if at all, than a Chamonix (045N1 weights at 1.38kg or 1.42kg depending on the wood, 045N2 is 100g heavier). It is indeed significantly lighter than...
No, 120/220 film does not accidentally loosen in most cameras. They do, occasionally, loosen in your pocket or backpack.
Nope, the owner's name is Jiang Bao-Heng, BH is just the abbreviation of his first name...
Your reasoning is completely wrong. First of all, Horseman sw617 that I was talking about, does not use red window. It has a metered film transportation mechanism. Second, The extra protection...
Horseman sw617 only accepts 120 film.
The back paper of 120 film adds an extra layer of protection against fogging and many people prefer the extra safety. Also in many countries other than the...
Hi Bob, which lense did you use to shoot the 3 pics attached to your post? thanks, Han
That's exactly what I did...with an xacto knife and a thick ruler
dark slide mask is a great idea. I've done it a lot when i was using a 4x5 camera.

6x12cm:...
Exactly....see my post #32 for yet another choice...
At least Pentax 645D.
You guys might wanna take a look at this. There are other choices besides cone-based P&S and field cameras...
Chamonix Saber, offered by Chamonix Studio (part of Chamonix View Camera)
Lens...
no....I was offered a good price for a used 180 VF and bought a new 90 VF from linhofstudio. For the 300 lens I guess I'll just stick with ground glass.
Your DC solution is very interesting but I...
Ok I might have been misled by the 6x17 print ratio form his work...:p
I have three lense (90, 180, 300), and the two systems (each with 3 lense) take up exactly the same space (bottom part of a...
Ok I used both Shen-hao TFC617 and now has a Fotoman 617 (probably the opposite pathway as compared to Lachlan?) and I think I do have some experience here. These comparison applies to the...
They are bulky. I heard that Chamonix is working on a folding design, but don't know when it will be completed and released...
Many reflex viewers come with an integrated loupe around 3x.
As...
Once I saw a photographer shooting architectures using a Gaoersi/Fotoman-like 4x5 P&S camera (not sure exactly which, they do look similar). These cameras use a lens cone assembly with helical...
Talking about Chamonix, the underlying essence of Chamonix's design (and many other lightweight large format designs) is a compromise between ease of use and lightweight. You just can't have the cake...
There are several workarounds. My way was to slightly widen (using an xacto knife) the groove in back of the 045n1 which corresponds to the rim of the horseman holder; and then use some electric tape...
Ok I stand corrected. You were right. Thanks for clarifying this!
This information is wrong and misleading. How would you check focus in midroll with the current Linhof 617's darkslide? You can switch lense in midroll though, but to check focus you would have to...
I used 045n1 for quite a while. I see no problem with the rigidity, and I don't really believe XPO will have much better rigidity than 045n1, given its structure. However, XPO does give you zero...
aha, nice, a great idea....never thought about it...
thanks for sharing it :)
not quite as elegant as the Albada viewfinder though...
Spanner wrench, high-purity ethanol, some cotton balls, and some patience...
I contacted some Chinese factories who could do this. They will need an order of at least 200 viewfinders to start a batch production....alas...
The answer is Chamonix Saber...although there's a long queue ahead of you...

Are there any manufacturers making custom albada bright-line viewfinders? These will be great add-ons for low-cost 6x12/6x17 cameras, being much more accurate than their primitive viewfinder with...
I have 6 LF lense. the purchase cost varies between $200 and $600, and the average cost is around $350.
So, SA 72mm XL can be used on the TFC617 which accepts linhof technika boards only? That's very interesting....I thought it wouldn't fit, just like the 90XL, but I guess I'm wrong.
Maybe I'll...
maybe with some fine wine and ... Cheers! :)

(ok, never mind, i saw the bellow is interchangeable)
I actually would prefer a linhof front standard if that'll make it a couple...
Please allow me to cite one of your pics again as a attachment.
Your camera has a quad extension as well. I think the extension and focusing mechanism are both essentially the same on the two...
Very interesting Lachlan! I'm impressed by both you and Mr Zhang's efforts in making these wonderful designs (including the TFC617) very affordable to the general public.
I'm in a process of...
2 to 2.5 inch is a lot. You can use the Fotoman GG to test the framing accuracy of Horseman/Fuji viewfinder by yourself. My guess is that it won't matter for infinity shots.
you're right - that wouldn't....
maybe that was due to the number positioning on certain film type? i was using Velvia and Provia with the Fotoman and never got any framing issue.
Did you correctly align the "start" mark on the film's back-paper with the marking on the body?
Looks like a shen-hao version of Ebony 45SU.
How heavy is it? the original 45SU weights around 2.7kg, way too heavy for a field camera IMHO.
Chamonix 45N2 weights around 1.5kg and is almost the same, if not lighter, than Toyo 45CF's 1.55kg.
