Re: DIY light-tight material for bellows

    Just a quick note:

You can make perfectly acceptable bellows from readily available fabrics. Get the thinnest faux leather from a large fabric retailer. Yupo is an excellent material for ribbing....

Re: Pyro HD dev times in 4x5 tank

My experience/practice is very similar to JP's, though I normally rate FP4+ @ 64 and development usually runs 8-9 minutes for a normal contrast scene. Developing by inspection I've had times run...

Re: Need some help cutting spring tempered steel!

Thanks everyone, and just to follow up here's what happened with the springs: I took Bob's advice and had the steel chopped up at a local fabricator for a small sum. Unfortunately the temper was...

Re: Need some help cutting spring tempered steel!

I was consulting Colin Graham's awesome 'Darkshop' blog extensively until it was, sadly, taken down a few days ago. I seem to remember him mentioning those Deardorff springs at some point, and that...

Re: Need some help cutting spring tempered steel!

    Thanks all for your advice.

Vinny, that feeler gauge stock looks like a great solution! Unfortunately, I planned the back with 3/8" springs in mind and the space is slightly too narrow to...

Need some help cutting spring tempered steel!

    Hi folks,

I'm attempting to make some leaf springs for a camera back. I ran a 1/16" sheet of spring steel through the table saw and it ruined the temper. Does anyone here know of an effective way...

    Re: Easy Pinhole repair

Molto, you've stumbled upon a common fix for bellows interiors, rollerblind shutters, etc. It's cool that you managed to match the colour for the bellows exterior!
  9. Re: Contact printing

You could create a mask slightly smaller than the negative to prevent exposure through the rebate area.

    Re: L O U P E recommendation for 4x5

Another option, and a cheap one, is to use a 50mm lens. Perhaps not the ideal tool but it works well. I normally focus by eye and pull out the 50mm when in doubt. If you have one lying around give a...

    Re: Printing 8x10 vs 16x20

I think Bob hit it on the head when he said that the image opens up as the negative is magnified. Say you had an 8x10 halftone pattern that rendered middle grey at a viewing distance of three feet....

I always enjoy visiting Toronto Island and find it very interesting in the Winter. If you head to Harborfront, which has some interesting features of it's own, you will find the ferry docks but you...

I really like the glow on the first one but there's not much detail to bite into...perhaps somewhere between the two.
  15. Re: Suggestion for affordable 4x5 camera and film for hand-held aerial photography

William Garnett messed around with 4x5 for a long time; he used a K-20 aerial camera as well as an Anniversary Speed Graphic but had problems with the film picking up vibration and causing blur due...

Re: is Adox CHS 100 II worth the price?

What's the Canadian source? I've ordered from Fotoimpex in the past as it's quite a bit cheaper than Freestyle...better selection too.

Here's the link to a database that will give you lots of ideas and is fun to browse:

Re: Buying advice for first LF camera

Some older Tessar type lenses are available in f/4.5 such as the Schnieder Xenar 150mm or the Zeiss Jena Tessar 135mm. Probably lots of others too. These are usually available at very low prices....
