Fuji still makes Astia?
That's the best idea yet. These threads raged on years ago...some of the people are different (ghost of Jorge for example) but the stuff is the same.
I don't agree. When someone is selling a lens for $800 that normally sells online for $300...prospective buyers should be informed of such. That's not rude....it's saving someone from making a...
Roman Johnston who posts a number of photos on DPReview has a photo of the same tree....that many agreed was far better than Lik's version.
After viewing Rodney's photographs at his Pier 39 Gallery a week ago, I'd say the P65+ shots, while good, where not up to the 8x10 photos. The IQ180 photographs though were another matter....they...
Chris, Rodney shoots with 8x10 Astia...and Astia is no more. I think that's why he's switching over to MF digital backs.
Ranks right up there with "Grainography Print"
Well, first off, the Ilford Paper wasn't really an archival paper. As well, the RC was designed more for dye based inks as it encapsulates the inks. The pigment inks from the Epson could have been...
Thanks Lenny.
While I respect Lenny greatly, 1100ppi of real info from the V700 is plain wrong. I've tested mine out to around 2200ppi with 35mm and MF. I've never done a test sheet with 4x5...but I know 1100ppi...
An interesting post. Unfortunately, for you to establish an operating color film line, you'd need access to tens of millions for startup costs. Good luck getting people lined up for that. ...
Agreed. I have a Win 7 workstation with 6gb of ram and I have no problem with 1gb 4x5 scans.
I switched to Ilford for all my B&W. I garee....Kodak is a slow motion trainwreck!
Agreed Roger. For me, it HP5 in HC110 Dil B....for iso 650.
Ilford HP5 is a superb emulsion in 35mm.
It's starting to feel like we'll have Fuji for color and Ilford for B&W. Not that it would be a bad thing....but I find it hard to believe that Kodak could vanish.
Looks like restructuring lawyers were hired this afternoon:

Here's the press release:
Press Release:
Fujifilm Professional has announced that Fujifilm Japan is to cease its manufacture of Quickload films in April 2010.
Fujifilm's Senior Product...
I recall a Fuji press release stating that they were no longer making QL. I'll see if I can find it. I love the QL system so if indeed they are still around....I'm stoked!!!
The Brothers Wright are a good example of applying the film niche to their business model. Check out the Twin Lens blog...it's a good read and a good example of what the latest emulsions can record.
Sorry, that's not correct. A large amount of the error correction is built upon recording a large amount of redundant data.
Ya, it's kind of weird that such large cities in the US have no labs....while here in Vancouver and Victoria we have labs o' plenty to choose from. Bizarre.
I have to agree there. And I agree with a lot of what you say about the professional being the whole package. My reference went simply to what attracts the publics attention.
Oh, and a great...
I'm not sure about that Oren. Fuji ceased making Quickloads a while back. If they are still listed, I'd say the website simply either is not updated, or they have current inventory.
I still have...
They won't have respect for you until they come up and talk to you....and they'll only do that if they are curious by what they see....otherwise, they'll just walk on by.
And guess what makes them...
Sorry John. I thought you were just throwing sarcasm around. Guess I should have a coffee and take my meds. :D
If you read the first instance of that reference in this thread, you would understand. It isn't up to me to summarize 26 pages of posts for you.
More than likely. I'm not sure why Kirk is on this so much. Why would anyone think the public would view a P&S the same as a pro camera? I've never heard anyone make such a claim. The public...
Yes, seriously. Two people standing side by side photographing a building. One is using the Nikon D3X...the other an Olympus point and shoot.
Ask the public which one is the pro on assignment. ...
Seriously, can you do the math?
Ricoh
Great article....and wonderful images as well.
That has been what I've seen so many times...I can't even begin to count. Make sure you carry some business cards with you....it's amazing how much business you can get from this.
How does one "look" professional?
Sorry Kirk....I've been seeing this for years. Many of my friends comment on the same thing. The public perceives the professional by the gear they see...
Technically, I don't spend anything as my clients pay for the processing as I've built that into my plans.
I average about 15-20 rolls of film for each wedding...so about 625 rolls a year there. ...
Well, lets hope Ilford stays around for my B&W.
Yes, apparently. I can get a decent looking 8x10 from the D30....I still own one. But even at that size, Astia or Provia spanks the DSLR. Oh well....it drives web traffic I guess.
That may be the case Kirk....but it's not the same siutation as I mentioned. I can tell you that if you had someone beside you with a 4x5 monorail or an RB67...you wouldn't get much interest in...
Funny how everyone but the reviewers at the LL can seem to get a sharp photograph. It always amazes me how aweful their film work looks. Of course coming from a site that thinks 3mp is better than...
I'm hearing this all around....without exception. Virtually everyone has a DSLR now. When I took the family camping...everyone had one. When I went to Disneyland with the kids, you see a mountain...
