    Re: Screen Cezanne Users Unite

That would be great Peter, I'd love to see a sample of P99 in case I have to import it as a replacement for my bed and pay an insane amount of money for shipping. I'll PM you.
    I haven't gotten...

    Re: Screen Cezanne Users Unite

I've tried hand polishing but mine were too deep, I haven't tried since but as I have acquired many polishes in the mean time I might give machine polishing it a go soon and I'll let you know how it...
  3. Re: New DPL Scanner software from Aztek for their drum scanners

That seems like a peculiar stance to take, unless perhaps all you have to have scanned are badly exposed slides (assuming you're correct that this is makes such a noticeable difference considering I...

    Re: Screen Cezanne Users Unite

I found Evoniks Anti-Reflex far to textured compared to the original platen. I've seen P99 being recommended but don't know how it compares to the original platen and it seems sadly like no one at...

Re: HOWTEK 4500 Drum Scanner SCSI Recommendations?

For my Crosfield Magnascan 200i (Howtek D4000) I use a P4 system on XP with Silverfast. It works fine, I've had no issues.

Shame to see they don't offer a standard version of DPL anymore, that...

Hi Martin, glad to see you got it up and running.

  8. Re: Beginner's drum scanning questions concerning mounting

Hi Dan, his drums were acrylic, I'm certain, I had a chance to inspect them myself.

In my previous profession where I spent most of my time inside a cleanroom, there was various equipment with...
  9. Re: Beginner's drum scanning questions concerning mounting

Isopropanol consistently makes up less than 20% of the solutions mentioned, at that strength used as a cleaner it wouldn't do anything to damage acrylic, neither instantly or cumulatively. To...
  10. Re: Beginner's drum scanning questions concerning mounting

Obviously I'm not saying no film cleaner out there would damage a drum, I'm sure many would and you're correct to say it's inadvisable.

But the most common ones I know such as Varn film cleaner,...
  11. Re: Beginner's drum scanning questions concerning mounting

Most film cleaners I find are made out of mostly petroleum ether, just like kami fluid.
In any case, I've seen him work, the man has great skill and experience and his scans are fantastic.
    However...
  12. Re: Beginner's drum scanning questions concerning mounting

A while back I had the pleasure of meeting man that has been scanning film for the last 30 years.
At the lab he works he uses a ICG drum scanner and he mounts the film with baby oil (aka mineral...

    Re: Screen Cezanne Users Unite

Thanks Peter! I'm on my phone now so I'll have to have a good look at home, but for my use I think the minute decrease in resolution might not be significant enough to sacrifice the ease of scanning...

    Re: Screen Cezanne Users Unite

Interesting, how much loss of resolution would you say the original anti newton bed gives if you had to express it in a percentage?

I might try the P99 material, it doesn't seem to be too...

    To update :

I've got it working! Turned out to be a driver problem, rolling it back made the scanner function as should.
The information on this forum proved to be very valuable.

    I understand...

I see, yes that's correct, in fact by adding to the reflective strip and having another look at the lights position, I managed to get a scan out of it, the result however is somewhat...

The Elite is supposed to have two lamps? Just for transparency you mean or altogether?
I have one lamp up top for transparency and two below for reflective it seems.
    Today I cleaned the scanner...

Sadly all three lamps seem to be insufficiently bright, I got it for 150 euro's so might try changing the lamp assembly as I saw another member did.

    Re: Screen Cezanne Users Unite

Quick question, I just picked up a Cezanne Elite and I'm trying to test it but have come to the realization that I need to be connected to a server is that correct or is there a way to...
  23. Re: Keep Nikon 9000 or sell it in favor of Eversmart/Fuji C-550/Agfa XY-15

I saw that article and considered it, it could also be a possibility.
The Howtek isn't too expensive though and right now I can afford it so I figured I'd try that out and see how I like it, I...
  24. Re: Keep Nikon 9000 or sell it in favor of Eversmart/Fuji C-550/Agfa XY-15

A drum scanner does seen like the only proper upgrade I could get.
I'm looking at a Howtek D4000 this Sunday that comes with everything I would need.
I'll be holding on to the Nikon 9000 for prints...

Re: Nikon 8000 users help needed

Why not get a older Imacon Precision II/III is that's what you're comfortable with?
If you could afford a Nikon 9000 you can afford one of those secondhand and in scan quality they're very close.
  26. Re: Keep Nikon 9000 or sell it in favor of Eversmart/Fuji C-550/Agfa XY-15

Spotting has never been much of an issue for me, it wasn't on my other scanner at least and I reckon it'll be even less so on a scanner such as this, at least not more so.

    I however highly...

  28. Re: Keep Nikon 9000 or sell it in favor of Eversmart/Fuji C-550/Agfa XY-15

How come Peter? Like I said I'm quite happy with the results of the Nikon, but swapping out frame after frame doesn't make for very good productivity, at the time I'm just making contact sheets with...
  29. Re: Keep Nikon 9000 or sell it in favor of Eversmart/Fuji C-550/Agfa XY-15

Yeah I do use ICE most of the time, great time saver, though I scanned with a Polaroid Sprintscan for a few years which didn't have it, it's annoying but not a deal breaker and I imagine the flatbeds...
  30. Re: Keep Nikon 9000 or sell it in favor of Eversmart/Fuji C-550/Agfa XY-15

That would be ideal definitely but those cost far beyond what I can afford.
The Fuji, Agfa and Eversmart are offered for literally a couple of hundred so I could afford getting them in the short...
  31. Re: Keep Nikon 9000 or sell it in favor of Eversmart/Fuji C-550/Agfa XY-15

Oh yeah totally forgot about that comparison, judging from that though it seems to me that most of the pro-flatbeds even the ones that are considered amongst the best like the Fuji C-550 don't...
  32. Keep Nikon 9000 or sell it in favor of Eversmart/Fuji C-550/Agfa XY-15

I've been debating whether it would be a good idea for me to sell the Nikon and buy a pro flatbed instead but I find it incredibly difficult to figure out if this would be a smart move.
    My biggest...
