  1. Re: Help needed on developing sharp negatives for carbon printing

Thank you guys for your thoughts/contribution. I have to apologize as what I was trying to get is edge effects. I did a comparison between constant agitation using a Paterson Orbital and semi-stand...

Re: the status of Shanghai film

This is good news. Shanghai film is superior to Lucky film on overall quality control, and definitely scratch free.
  3. Help needed on developing sharp negatives for carbon printing

    Hi all,

I know there might be plenty of discussions on this topic. I am using semi-stand development for all negatives 810 and smaller. But don't have a big enough tray for developing 11x14 film,...

Lucky film has been selling a batch they just produced using allegedly AGFA film. I tried their 810. There are still some scratches occasionally. I overheard their 4x5 might have some issue with the...

No one in the company speaks English. The person visiting Thailand is going to Ko Phuket only. Let me know how to go next steps if you are interested in getting some.

Re: ULF: What Increase in Image Quality Over 8x10?

I have been shooting 8x10 and 11x14, and always contact print. The advantage of an ULF print is the impact to viewers, less so on image quality, IMO. The pain one has to go through using an ULF is...

Re: the status of Shanghai film

Yes, the factory is moved and hasn't resume production. However, another film maker Lucky film has just finished a small batch, in 4x5, 810 and even 11x14. The issue for overseas users is how to get...

Re: 11x14 experiences - please share yours

I also purchased a Charmonix 11x14, very nicely made and pleasant to use. When it comes to finding good lenses for the format, it took me a while now but I still need a lense long enough. The longest...
  12. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Hi all, I've been experimenting rotary developing double-sided Xray film, and not having had much success to get rid of marks on the back side. I'm using a JOBO tube. Any ideas how to eliminate the...
  13. Re: Anyone used Hydrogen Peroxide to prevent fungus in carbon printing?

Thanks Jim. I'm exploring with different papers. The watercolor paper I used gave a more artistic look, but less photographic. The good thing about carbon print is we can be free from BW photo...
  14. Re: Anyone used Hydrogen Peroxide to prevent fungus in carbon printing?

Thanks Sandy. All good information. I'm wasting glop pouring 2 mm :(
I noticed when using different paper, I needed to expose a bit more. Or is it because I left the sensitized tissue 30 minutes...
  15. Re: Anyone used Hydrogen Peroxide to prevent fungus in carbon printing?

Jim, I can't agree more. While I can play with the big cameras I just enjoy the days. The first 11x14 I bought is all metal, and the beast is almost 40 pounds. It's tricky to mount it to the tripod...
  16. Re: Anyone used Hydrogen Peroxide to prevent fungus in carbon printing?

Thanks Andrew. This is the way to go.
I started carbon about two years ago. Now I came to understand better the things between pigment load, exposure, negative DR, and others. I like carbon prints...
  17. Re: Anyone used Hydrogen Peroxide to prevent fungus in carbon printing?

Thanks. RH at my home is around 40 to 50 in winter time. I pour 2.5mm thick when wet, maybe too thick?
  18. Re: Anyone used Hydrogen Peroxide to prevent fungus in carbon printing?

    Jim,
14x17 is a beautiful size. The biggest camera I have is 11x14. Once I got to bigger than 8x10, the chances of making mistakes is many many many times more, even starting from loading the film....

  20. Re: Anyone used Hydrogen Peroxide to prevent fungus in carbon printing?

Thanks Michael. I remembered somewhere thymol was mentioned as antifungus stuff. I'll give it a try if I can't get the tissues dry quick enough.

  21. Re: Anyone used Hydrogen Peroxide to prevent fungus in carbon printing?

  22. Anyone used Hydrogen Peroxide to prevent fungus in carbon printing?

I noticed some fungus on tissues I poured. I learned that Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) is good for killing off the fungus, but not sure what it does to gelatin. Is it an overkill if I added a few drops...

  27. Re: Fuji HR-T X-Ray film: Sprint 1:9 (D76) or Rodinal?

I developed HR-U (not sure if it is the same with UR-T) in Obsidian Aqua, 1:70 A first, and then straight to 1:70 B (75% ca. Potassium), both 5 minutes, 28C. I liked the result. But I switched to...
