Roger, thanks. I'm glad you made it to see the show. I'll let June know you enjoyed the portraits. I wish I could have seen you guys. I just finished a weekend workshop so I just missed you.

Well, I thought this was ULF holders? So, in that respect I'll take 4 14x17 holders and 8 8x20 holders when I'm on a trip. Other holders come but they are not ULF.
Gregg, nice body of work. Great to see it on the walls of a gallery. I'm not sure if I can get there but will try. I'm slammed as well trying to get everything for my show opening in Astoria this...
Roger, nice to hear you may make it up to see the show. The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday just to let you know. Merg, thanks very much. Doesn't seem like it has been that long. Renato,...
If anyone is near the Oregon coast next Saturday please join me. I'll have many of my 14x17 carbon prints on display along with my fine press edition book which is all handmade carbon prints and text...
Dan, congratulations on the show! I wish I was closer too! Send me some pic's from the opening, I'd love to see the space.
If anyone is interested in our workshop you should buy your Christmas present now! We have one spot left.
I know Vaughn and I love to teach this workshop. It is an incredible location for a workshop and I hope you can join us. Last April we had great weather and we even got some snow too! The image...
Dan, I've been shooting ULF for some time now. I build all of my cameras ( 3 8x10's, 1 11x14, 2 8x20's and 4 14x17's.) The formats I use now are 8x10, 8x20 and 14x17. I've sold the rest except a...
Merg, all is well. Isn't it great when you come across an image you overlooked years ago. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Yes, a reflection when I photographed it.
Merg, beautiful interpretation. Here is an old one of mine from when I was printing silver gelatin. A 16x20 of "The Rock, Kern River"
All the suggestions for lighting and not stopping down the lenses more than a stop or stop and a half are what I'd recommend as well. Study the works of those that were suggested and have fun. Shoot...
Check with Clear Bags. They have many different sizes.
If I sell one maybe I can next time!
The show was very enjoyable. No sales... yet. A lot in the works.
Send me the Efke 25. I know what to do with it.
Vaughn, we have had some good times in the Redwoods, many in fact and more to come for sure. The 8x20 book is something I'm quite proud of and I appreciate the kind words you wrote for the book.
Peter, I'll see you there!
Merg, thank you very much. I really appreciate it.
I'd like to invite everyone in the area around Westwood New Jersey to an opening on Thursday November 2, 2023 at Gallery 270 in Bergen County Camera.
Monalog Collective is a group of dedicated Black...
Here is the plate and the Quick stand XL plate for the camera which is 4.375x6" long. When I was considering this system I contacted them and asked if they had a longer Kick stand plate. They did not...
I'm with Jim Noel on this one. I'll keep shooting 8x10, 8x20 and 14x17 and then downsize to maybe 5x7 in my 90's. Now that means building a 5x7 of course.
I shot Efke 25 in 8x10 for years. It gave me outstanding negatives in Pyrocat-HD . I'm down to about 30 sheets.
To me ULF is a contact print from a ULF film negative, period. Now that is just me. We all can agree that seeing prints in person is the only way to enjoy a finely crafted contact print. I am very...
Chris, thanks a lot. They look better in the flesh.
These images have sold well for me. They are both 8x20 carbon transfer contact prints.
I say "burn them at the stake!" If they catch an arsonist that should be the punishment. I know it is not PC to say this. If we allow arson to keep happening without harsh punishment it will...
Hugo, great! I hope the opening goes well.
That was the one thing I really liked about my 8x10 Seneca Improved. I never tried to do that in any of the cameras I've built.
Thanks everyone. Since I have three 8x10's it looks like the two Ebony style cameras are spoken for. I still have enough parts that I made for three more cameras! Maybe this winter? Possibly Cherry...
I've built many cameras. 8x10's, 8x20 and four 14x17's and they all have rear tilts and swings. My latest 8x10 has asymmetrical tilts on the rear along with swings and base tilts. I've always seen...
My latest 8x10. It is Mahogany and fashioned after the Ebony SW810. Can't wait to try it out.
Vaughn, I love these two examples. Vaughn and I have worked in the redwoods together for some time now. There have been many times in the Southern Redwoods when Mother Nature holds her breath for us....
Dan, nice job on the enlarger.
I love shooting my 8x10 camera. It is my "point and shoot." Contact printing in carbon with 8x10 negatives is pure joy as is printing 8x20 and 14x17 negatives. Some...
Don, this will be great!
John has gone digital. He gave all of his camera gear and darkroom equipment to Michael at LightBox Photographic Gallery in Astoria Oregon. His 4x5 holders are all filled with FP-4. I have seen all...
John, we got the workshop in and it was beautiful. Great weather, students, light and food. Such rewarding work. Looking forward to it next year.
I've shot the GP-3 film in 14x17 and it is just fine. No defects or problems.
Andrew, nice job again. I've looked back at some of my nicest negatives and they were all 1:1:150 with the 3 minute agitation cycle in dip and dunk tanks for 8x10.
