LF vs. Stitching with a DSLR

Having been very sceptical about digital cameras in the past I still bought my very first DSLR (Canon 20D) some weeks ago. In fact this is my first AF and my first digital camera, so this acquisition...
  2. Film holders: What to do against flattened velvet?

Just bought 20 used Fidelity film holders and realized that 10 of them show the typical light leaks at the light trap where the dark slide enters the holder. As the holders look almost mint I guess...
  3. Best 4*5/5*7 scanner for 3000 US$?

Recently I compared the results from a drum scanner and an Imacon (both operated by a specialist) and the Epson 4870 (operated by myself). My conclusion was that up to a magnification ratio of about...
  4. Where to have larger color prints than 48x96 made ?

Grieger lab in Germany uses an 'Océ Lightjet 500 XL' for print sizes up to 180 x 360cm (70"x141") in one sheet. Costs start at app. 500 EUR/ 609 $ depending on how much effort is needed for the final...
  5. displaying prints with no glass-- latest results

Don’t know whether you look for a cost-no-object or for an economical solution but you should have a look at a process called Diasec. Essentially it is a special patented silicon rubber used to face...
  6. Minolta Flash Meter 6 vs Sekonic L-558

Have the Minolta FM6 and I am very satisfied with it. Use it quite often in low light and never reached the sensitivity limits of the meter.

Would buy the Minolta again as I prefer its very...
  7. Traditional Black and White / View Camera Magazine / Kerfuffle

In my opinion Bob Salomon has found a respectable way to have his business goals in mind and at the same time make real contributions to forums like this. Others could learn from this.

    Just...
  8. Back to back mounting on aluminum

Would like to hear opinions on the technique of mounting prints on aluminum plates. I know of several photographers doing it and like the idea of using a pure material instead of plates made of...

    Preferred focusing loupe?

It depends on the groundglas/ fresnel you use. For most fresnel screens a 7x magnification is too much, as you magnify the structure of it that much that you have problems to see the picture itself....
  10. sending important negatives overseas

There are some agents specialized in transporting jewels, collector watches etc. internationally. Would try one of these. If I remember correctly the price is about 2-3 times higher than Fedex/UPS...

    Kardan M to Kardan GT45

All you gain with the GT is base tilt as the M offers only on axis tilt. The price you pay for this is much much more bulk.

In my opinion this makes only sense for studio use.

  16. Nikon 200M f9 or Schneider 210 5.6 ?

    Eugene,

a Apo-Sironar-N 210 weighs only 440g. Would you give up the advantages of a plasmat for 155g?
  17. Nikon 200M f9 or Schneider 210 5.6 ?

If you plan to stay with only two lenses, I would agree that 200/210mm is a good focal length for supplementing the 110mm. Personally I prefer to use a 180mm and a 300mm.

    Up to 210mm I would...
  18. E6 sheet film processing prices in Europe

Agree that 2-3 EUR is the usual price for a 4x5 E-6/C-41 development. At least for the nearer future you should find a good pro lab in any big town in Western Europe.

  20. Is Photo Technik International available by subscription?

The old PTI had some old fashioned charm. Since the new publisher took over it is only one more magazine rewriting press releases for their advertising clients.

    Super Angulon 120 vs 121

The SA 121 is the predecessor of the SA 120. I tested both some weeks ago. The 121 had a very poor performance in the corners, the 120 was in all aspects excellent.

The SA 120 could be a perfect...

Ok, but coming back to my original question: Don't you discover some dirt residues on the blades after successfully completing the shutter wash?

Is this just unavoidable or what is my mistake?
